Greetings dear and precious saints of the only Living God and welcome to a weekly study of the Bible Book of Jude. The Lord has been bringing this Book up in my thinking for a few weeks and so here we are to study. This study will take the place of From the Prophets Chamber at least for the next few weeks. As we prepare to move forward, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. This Bible book speaks to faith and disbelief, even the controversial topic of backsliding (going from saved to unsaved). When one has faith in something or someone they trust, rely upon and have an assurance of the thing or person. On the other hand, disbelief has to do with doubt, distrust, skepticism, and suspicion. Faith is the indispensable factor in pleasing God. Unbelief or disbelief is an anathema (abhorrence, abomination, loathing, curse) to God. He (God) doesn’t like it anymore when people don’t believe Him then you and I like it when people don’t believe us.
As I was preparing this study, I found that there is some controversy as to the author. Of course, we know the primary author is God, I am referring to the human author who wrote the Words inspired of the Holy Spirit. Be sure you are reading out loud!
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Romans 15:4 (KJV)
4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
I want to point something out that may be of help to someone reading. All Scripture is inspired of God and all Scripture is true but not all Scripture is The Truth. One thing that is crucial to the study of Scripture is to determine who is speaking and who are they speaking to. Many places in Scripture the words of men (people) or even a demon or the Devil are recorded, it is their words, their thoughts, and actions, not those of God. For example, think of the Garden of Eden.
Genesis 3:1 (KJV)
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
These not God inspired (breathed) words but the words of evil, of the serpent come to temp the woman (later named Eve). Now back to the human author of this Bible Book of Jude. There are many ideas if you research but it seems to me that the general consensus is that this Jude is a son of Mary and Joseph. One that lived in the same household as Jesus (the Christ) whose supposed mother and father were Mary and Joseph. Before someone becomes apoplectic let me say that the Virgin Mary was Jesus’ mother in the sense that she carried Him in her womb for nine months and gave birth to Him and raised Him in the usual way following birth. Jesus body did not arise from the union of the egg (ova) of the woman and seed (sperm) of the man. No one is a half brother with Jesus which is a common belief. Let’s look at two separate Scriptures to help with this.
Luke 1:31 (KJV)
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
If you research you will find that the word “conceive” in the foregoing Scripture is also translated receive. So, it could be translated “thou shalt receive in thy womb”.
Hebrews 10:5 (KJV)
5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
This Scripture would seem to indicate that God fashioned a body for Jesus just as He did for Adam in the beginning.
More next week when Lord willing, I will pick up right here with this introductory material.
