A WELL OF TRUTH
WHAT ABOUT BEING PROUD?
1 Peter 5:5 (KJV)
5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. (Bold added)
Greetings dear saints of God and welcome back to “A Well of Truth”. Thank you for coming and being a part of this Ministry. Thank you for sharing, you are a blessing to us, to those who receive (see and read) this publication, and your sharing is a blessing to our Heavenly Father.
As we look at the title of this teaching, “WHAT ABOUT BEING PROUD?” We might all exclaim, “of course we are not to be proud, God hates pride”. Being proud, or having pride, has to do with lifting oneself above others, being arrogant, smug, conceited. Pride was the first sin we are aware of, first by Lucifer, then man in the image and likeness of God in the earth. How long has it been since you said to someone, “I am so proud of you?” This usually means they, another person, have accomplished something above the usual or displayed a particularly praiseworthy behavior. Yet, we say we are proud, like we had something to do with it, we lift ourselves up. That is an insult to the real achiever, the other person! Being proud is the opposite of humility (a God trait), it is devilish.
There is no record in all of Scripture of God (as Father, Son, or Holy Spirit) saying they were proud of someone and there is no record of a man (or woman) of God speaking on God’s behalf saying God was proud of this one or that one. Listen to what the Father said about Jesus.
Matthew 3:17 (KJV)
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
The words ‘pride’ or ‘proud’ are mentioned 97 times in the King James Version of the Bible and never in a positive light. You may be familiar with the following verses.
Proverbs 6:16-19 (KJV)
16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Proverbs 16:18 (KJV)
18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
When we witness another’s accomplishment or excellent behavior, we would be better served speaking more like God our Father saying “that is excellent”, “I am so very pleased”, “thank you for honoring them”, “congratulations on the achievement” and so on. Let’s get ourselves out of the picture, it is not about us, build up the achiever, the one with excellent behavior. See what Jesus had to say about pride, the company it keeps.
Mark 7:20-23 (KJV)
20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
