GIFTS – PART ONE HUNDRED-THIRTY-FOUR
ARMOR OF GOD – PART SEVENTY-SIX
THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

Greetings dear and precious children of God the Father and welcome back to our study of “Gifts” currently dealing with the “Armor of God”. Please take a few moments to share this teaching by every means available to you playing a role in the spreading of the good news (gospel) of the Kingdom of God. Knowing there is a Kingdom of God and how to gain access is by itself extraordinarily good news. Then to know that the head of this Kingdom is nothing but good adds to the wonder. And then to know that God, the head of this Kingdom, has provided us with everything (already – the answer is not on the way, it is here) for this natural life and godliness as well as the life to come. We access and make it manifest by faith in love. Where do you beat a deal like this?
As you know, I have been dealing with this topic, the Armor of God now for some seventy-six weeks. You will recall that we reviewed the whole fifth chapter of Ephesians and the first nine verses of the sixth chapter before actually launching into the various aspects of this armor. Like many other things it is not only vital to know what the thing is (in this case the Armor of God) but how it operates and under what conditions it operates best. This is typically taught with the use of the pieces of ancient Roman Armor and I have used that to a degree. However, I have put forth that a visual image of a helmet or a sword will not get the job done. We must have as our own the body of knowledge that the helmet or sword represents. Let me stir up our memories in this particular area by reviewing the following passage from 2nd Peter.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Does anyone want any grace or peace? Well, we must access it through knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. This involves study and most of all spending time with the Lord. In many ways this happens the same way we all gain knowledge of those around us. What brings His divine Power into our lives for all we need for life and godliness? Knowledge of Him! By this knowledge we escape the corruptions of this world, we receive His great and precious promises and (look at this) we become partakers of His divine nature. Is our godly nature surprising since our spirit man came from God Himself (Genesis 2:7) and the Holy Spirit lives within us and flows all over us, and day by day as we walk with Him, we become more and more like Him which is the will and plan of God from the beginning.
Romans 8:29 (TLB)
29 For from the very beginning God decided that those who came to him—and all along he knew who would—should become like his Son, so that his Son would be the First, with many brothers.
Now, let’s turn our attention to the armor of God passage with our focus coming to rest in verse seventeen on the phrase “the sword of the Spirit”. Read out loud and slowly.
Ephesians 6:10-18 (KJV)
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (Bold added)
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. Does that refer only to the Logos of God, the Rhema of God, or perhaps even the person of God Himself, the second person of the Trinity? Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
