OBEDIENCE TO THE WORD OF GOD BRINGS SUCCESS

Welcome to the eleventh installment of my teachings from my book “Awake, Arise, and Triumph – Be Love”. I strongly encourage you to get the book. It is not a once and done book but one on which to meditate. I am not encouraging you to meditate so much on my words and insights as the Scriptures God, love Himself, has given for our instruction. No doubt you hear much about love in Church and in conversations with others but seldom if ever hear what love is being talked about. In these teaching I am laser focused on Divine love (agapē /agapaō). We hear that God loves us. Let me ask you, how does He love us? I will be talking about that soon. How do we love God. Many times, when people are speaking or singing of their love for God, we see them get this angelic look on their face and a faraway look. Is that what love (agapē/ agapaō) of God is?
Yesterday I left off teaching about the blessing (Grace) and the curse (the thief coming to steal, kill, and destroy) in our lives and what brings and maintains each. Reaping the curse is a consequence of disobedience to the Word of God. Look, you do not want anything to do with the curse. The curse is the work product of sin, and the wages of sin are death. The twenty-eighth chapter of Deuteronomy goes on for some fifty-three verses describing the curse. If you are not convinced that obedience to the Word of God, the ways of God which is love (agapē /agapaō) is the way to go review those fifty-three verses. Now, I direct your attention to Deuteronomy chapter six.
Deuteronomy 6:5-6 (KJV)
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
In this passage we do see the command to “love the LORD thy God” and He speaks of this in various ways over the next several verses. Remember, love of God is obedience to the Word of God. Then God tells us the outcome of obedience to Him.
Deuteronomy 6:18 (KJV)
18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,
Our success is assured by obedience to the Word of God for it brings God or more accurately allows God a place in our life. Sound familiar? Let us see if we can expand or broaden our thinking a little with regard to this concept that love equals obedience to the Word of God. One might say it sounds like a doctrine of works, but we are under grace. Getting under and staying under grace (the Holy Spirit) takes work, it is a function of the will involving our thought life, our words, and our actions. It took works and faith to get saved. You had to believe (faith) in your heart and speak with your mouth (works) which was our submission to Grace and He (Grace) made us alive to God. Grace called us to the Father, and we answered with our thoughts, and acted including with the words of our mouth. Praise the Lord for His amazing Grace. Remember what the Apostle James had to say about faith and works by the unction of the Holy Spirit.
James 2:17-19 (KJV)
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
Faith and works cannot be separated any more than faith and love (agapē /agapaō). Back to the Words of the Master.
John 15:10-14 (KJV)
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
This passage has everything to do with us obeying the Word of God. Verse thirteen gives us a little insight into walking in Blood Covenant with our God. When we do all His commands, we occupy a place in common with God. Makes one think of the following Scripture.
Amos 3:3 (KJV)
3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
The Living Bible puts it this way. It is like Jesus is asking us a question. Rather sobering.

3 For how can we walk together with your sins between us?
TAKE HOME:
