WHAT DOES GOD LOVING US LOOK LIKE

Welcome to the tenth installment of my teachings from my book “Awake, Arise, and Triumph – Be Love”. I strongly encourage you to get the book. It is not a once and done book but one on which to meditate. I am not encouraging you to meditate so much on my words and insights as the Scriptures God, love Himself, has given for our instruction. No doubt you hear much about love in Church and in conversations with others but seldom if ever hear what love is being talked about. In these teaching I am laser focused on Divine love (agapē /agapaō). We hear that God loves us. Let me ask you, how does He love us? I will be talking about that soon. How do we love God. Many times, when people are speaking or singing of their love for God, we see them get this angelic look on their face and a faraway look. Is that what love (agapē/ agapaō) of God is?
The Apostle of love (John) had this to say in his 2nd Epistle.
2 John 1:6 (KJV)
6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
It is wonderful how the Bible will interpret itself? This love is God originated, and God imparted or quickened (made alive) at the new birth and is evidenced in our lives by obeying the Word of God. The very capacity to obey the Word of God is made possible by the new birth and the presence of the Holy Spirit (Grace). It is not automatic, we must exercise our will, we choose. Your present and your future like mine are in our hand individually. Just as Jesus did all things with the help of the Eternal Spirit so must we.
Hebrews 9:14 (KJV)
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
The profession of love without reciprocating actions is a sin. Let us say we have a friend who dislikes chocolate ice cream but really enjoys vanilla ice cream, but we keep buying this friend chocolate ice cream. Does this demonstrate that I love my friend or that I despise (think little of) my friend? Of course, it demonstrates that I despise my friend. I am attempting to conform my friend to my likes and dislikes. That is manipulation which is witchcraft. Why do we attempt the same thing with God. Let us repent. Forgive me Father for trying to get to be conformed to me, rather than me submitting and being conformed to you. This idea of, if you love me, you will keep my commandments, is repeated many times in many ways in the Bible. How is it that the Church has missed such a simple fact? The answer is quite simply that after salvation we continue to walk in the flesh and the ways of the world ignoring the command to walk in the spirit. Consider the following passages.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (KJV)1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
Now this seems clear enough even though the word love does not appear in the text it is exactly what Jesus said in John 14:21. We see that we are to hear the Word, “hearken diligently”, we are to look at the Word, “observe”, and we are to do the Word, “do all his commandments”. Then what happens? “All these blessings shall come on thee and overtake thee”. Of course, there is another side of the coin called the curse, and unfortunately a vast majority of the body of Christ has chosen and are reaping the curse.
Deuteronomy 28:15 (KJV)
15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
TAKE HOME:
- What does loving God and God loving us look like? Many times, when people are speaking or singing of their love for God, we see them get this angelic look on their face and a faraway look in their eye. Is that what love (agapē/ agapaō) of God is? Is that how God loves us?
- What brings and keeps the blessing, the Grace of God in our lives? Hearing the Word, looking at, meditating upon the Word, and doing the Word His way.
- What brings and keeps the curse in our lives? Listening to other words, observing other words, and doing other words.
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
