BUTTER AND HONEY

Greeting’s children of the Most High God and welcome back to our study of the beautiful Book of Isaiah. As we move forward, please take a moment and share these teachings to further our reach with the gospel. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture today is of beautiful fall foliage which I realize is past but a pleasant memory as the bleakness of late fall has come and winter is at hand especially in the north (my home state of Maine).
Before we delve into our primary Bible text I want to revisit (believe the Holy Spirit would have me too) a teaching I did back on the 10th of September, titled “Social, Playground, School, and Work”. We see this pattern to one degree or another in the seven pillars of society including the Church.
2 Timothy 3:15-17 (KJV)
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
What prepares us for the “good works” referred to above? Is it our social life in and out of the Church? Is it our time on the playground in and out of Church? What about our time in School? Everything in the Kingdom of God happen by faith, our faith, motivated by love (agape), without doubt, and a led of the Holy Spirit. How does faith come and how does one purify their motives?
Romans 10:17 (KJV)
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
The work of the Kingdom is doing the things (works) Jesus did and now since Calvary we are authorized to do the greater things.
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Enjoy the social aspects of Church, it is important but frequently does not advance the Kingdom of God. Enjoy the playground at home and in the Church but it also does not prepare one for battle nor advance the Kingdom of God. The school room is where instruction is to occur, the impartation of Truth, teaching us the effective use and exercise of our God given authority and Power occurs. What are we doing with it? Are we sifting out and keeping the Truth and discarding the traditions of men and the doctrines of devils? Are we implementing the Truth in our lives? This is something for us all to think about, and then judge ourselves. Now let’s turn our attention to our primary text in the Book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 7:10-16 (KJV)
10 Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,
11 Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.
13 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.
As you will recall this chapter starts off with the Lord speaking through His Prophet Isaiah but now the Lord is speaking through King Ahaz of Judah. The Lord challenges the King to ask Him for a sign but he says he will not tempt the Lord. And then King Ahaz brings forth a Messianic Prophecy, declaring the coming of the Messiah. He declares by the Anointing that the Messiah will be born of a virgin, the Messiah will be a male (a son), and He will be called Immanuel (meaning God with us or God is with us). Verses fifteen and sixteen are rather interesting, let’s see them in another translation.
Isaiah 7:15-16 (NJB)
15 On curds and honey will he feed until he knows how to refuse the bad and choose the good.
16 Before the child knows how to refuse the bad and choose the good, the lands whose two kings are frightening you will be deserted.
See verse fifteen in the Message Bible.
Isaiah 7:15 (MSG)
15 By the time the child is twelve years old, able to make moral decisions,
We see in these verses that there is a time of innocence, a time when a child does not know how to make moral (God’s moral law) choices. In this time the child is innocent, without sin. The Lord goes on to tell King Ahaz that the kings threatening him that day, the King of Syria and Israel will be long gone before the Messiah comes. We are also told the diet of the Messiah (Jesus our Lord) at least in His years up to age twelve. Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as your Bible Teacher and a Prophetic Voice in your life I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, doubt it not, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
