THE THREE MINUTE WORD
Thursday – August 24, 2023, Elul 7, 5783
Greetings dear children of God. You are all children of God, right? If not take care of that right now. When our lives end, and everyone’s does, your body goes into the ground but your spirit/soul goes to either Heaven or Hell. In case you are ambivalent about it, there is no comparison between the two, make Heaven your home today, this very moment.
Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
If you confessed this Scripture for the first time, welcome to the family, and drop us a line with your testimony. Now, welcome back to our ongoing Bible study of the wonderful Book of Isaiah. Before proceeding forward please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. The featured picture today is of Donna and me at Church the 21st of May 2023. The Lord is so very good.
Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 44:8-11 (KJV)
8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
9 They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.
10 Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?
11 Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together.
So, what are delectable things? Again, let’s take a look at the NLT. Seems they are something one prizes which is absolutely worthless. I wonder how many of these things are in our lives.
Isaiah 44:9 (NLT)
9 How foolish are those who manufacture idols. These prized objects are really worthless. The people who worship idols don’t know this, so they are all put to shame.
The Hebrew word transliterated to English as delectable is the word hāmad meaning to delight in, thing of beauty, greatly beloved, covet, delectable thing, (× great) delight, desire, goodly, lust, (be) pleasant (thing), or a precious (thing) according to
Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. This is not to say we cannot or should not have pretty even valuable things in our homes but they are never to be viewed as any kind of god to us on any level. They are to be enjoyed for now, our really good stuff is to come.
2 Peter 3:9-10 (KJV)
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
To compare anyone, even anything created by God, or any man-made thing as a god is foolish for, they are absolutely useless being devoid of the Spirit and Power of the only real God. Notice in verse nine we see the phrase “shall not profit”. What about worshipping the only True God? Is there profit in worshipping, being fully submitted to our God? Of course, there is, the Scripture is full of those promises! The verse ends with the sobering statement that the maker of these idols, the idols themselves, and those who worship these idols will come to shame. Let us examine our lives for idols. An idol is anyone, anything, any activity, that we put before God at any time for any reason.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week. Remember we love you and there is nothing you can do about it.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
