THE THREE MINUTE WORD
Wednesday – August 23, 2023, Elul 6, 5783
Greetings dear children of God. You are all children of God, right? If not take care of that right now. When our lives end, and everyone’s does, your body goes into the ground but your spirit/soul goes to either Heaven or Hell. In case you are ambivalent about it, there is no comparison between the two, make Heaven your home today, this very moment.
Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
If you confessed this Scripture for the first time, welcome to the family, and drop us a line with your testimony. Now, welcome back to our ongoing Bible study of the wonderful Book of Isaiah. Before proceeding forward please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. The featured picture today is of a beautiful woodpecker feasting on some suet. This picture is provided by Marilyn Stevens who takes wonderful bird and other wildlife pictures. Thank you, Marilyn.
Now let’s move forward and read our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 44:8-11 (KJV)
8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
9 They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.
10 Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?
11 Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together.
As we move forward, I am presenting verse nine of our text in the New Living Translation then we will move back to the KJV for further analysis.
Isaiah 44:9 (NLT)
9 How foolish are those who manufacture idols. These prized objects are really worthless. The people who worship idols don’t know this, so they are all put to shame.
This translation brings the context of the verse forward in English that we more easily identify with. The reason I use the King James Version so much is that every word is tied to the Strong’s Concordance and the oldest available manuscripts. Now, let’s look at the word vanity. The word transliterated from the Hebrew to English is tōhû meaning to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), desert, a worthless thing, confusion, empty place, without form, nothing, (thing of) nought, vain, vanity, waste, or wilderness according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. We have seen this word before.
Genesis 1:2 (KJV)
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (Bold added)
Remember the Lord gave the Prophet Jeremiah a glimpse of this.
Jeremiah 4:23 (KJV)
23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. (Bold added)
Furthermore, this vanity is unaccompanied with the demonstration of Spirit and of power. When used not of things but of persons, it predicates not merely an absence of good, but also, since a vacuum does not exist in man’s moral nature, the presence of evil according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. So, who are we worshipping when there is the absence of the Spirit and the Power of God? I know we don’t like to think of evil in those around us or in ourselves but what can we conclude in the absence of the manifestation of God in our personal and Church life?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
PRAYERS AND QUESTIONS – please contact us and we will respond. Our goal is to build a solid foundation upon which children of God can become sons of God, stand and do exploits in Jesus’ name.
