Welcome back to this dynamic teaching of the wonderful and precious Bible Book of Isaiah. Please pause for a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Now let’s turn to our primary Bible text and continue reading out loud from the Book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 41:25-27 (AMP)
25 I have raised up and impelled to action one from the north [Cyrus], and he comes; from the rising of the sun he calls upon My name [recognizing that his victories have been granted to him by Me]. And he shall tread upon rulers and deputies as upon mortar and as the potter treads clay. [He comes with the suddenness of a comet, but none of the idol oracles of the nations has anticipated it.]
26 [What idol] has declared this from the beginning, that we could know? And beforetime, that we could say that he is [unquestionably] right? Yes, there is none who declares it, yes, there is none who proclaims it; yes, [for the truth is, O you dumb idols] there is none who hears you speak!
27 I [the Lord] first gave to Zion the announcement, Behold, [the Jews will be restored to their own land, and the man Cyrus shall be raised up who will deliver them] behold them! And to Jerusalem I gave a herald [Isaiah] bringing the good news.
Here we see God raising up a pagan king (non-Jew) to release the Jews in captivity and to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem. Now this is separate from the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem accomplished by the leadership of Nehemiah. The rebuilding of the Temple was spearheaded by Zerubbabel. This is all the work of the Lord by His Holy Spirit in the presence of an obedient people and obedient leadership. King Cyrus honored, even it seems worshipped the God of the Jews.
2 Chronicles 36:22-23 (KJV)
22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
23 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.
The Prophet speaks much about King Cyrus (The Lord speaking through him) and recall that Ezra a priest and scribe is a contemporary of Nehemiah.
Ezra 4:3 (KJV)
3 But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.
I am sure this seemed like an impossible situation for the Jews, God’s people, but God.
Luke 1:37 (KJV)
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
It may be that you have situations in your life that seems impossible and you need a “but God” moment. Seek His face and He will give direction and once you have done your part, He will do His. Change requires change. Continuing on the same path expecting a different result is futile.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week and remember we love you and there is nothing you can do about it.
