GIFTS – PART FORTY-TWO
GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT – PART THREE
Greetings dear and wonderful saints of the only Living God and welcome back to this Friday Bible teaching series titled “Gifts”. If you are reading this on Facebook or any other platform, please take just a moment and share it with as many people as possible to expand the reach of this Truth. Our God is good, merciful, and compassionate way beyond human reason. People seem to be walking only peripherally aware of the temporary and fragile nature of this life. Consider the following passage, this is on display big time.
2 Peter 3:3-7 (KJV)
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
Let us pray each one that the beginning of verse five does not apply to us. Let us not be ‘willingly’ ignorant of the Word of God. It seems that the Church, say nothing of the world, are caught up in the lusts of the flesh and by that distraction and consumption of time are willingly ignorant of the Word of God. As a very brief aside (I promise) the b portion of verse five is referring to this creation (Genesis 1:9 not 1:1). Verse six is referring to the flood of Noah. Verse seven is referring to this world after Noah and the division of the earth in the time of Peleg (Genesis 10:25) awaiting the fire that dissolves all before the new heaven and new earth (2 Peter 3:12-13) are created. Now, let’s shift gears a little and turn our attention and thoughts to the spiritual gifts given to men baptized in the Holy Spirit by the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul is the main educator (Holy Spirit through him) on this topic of the gifts of the Spirit and their operation. We also get some insights from the Book of Acts by the hand of Dr. Luke (Apostle Luke).
1 Corinthians 12:1 (KJV)
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
Is the Apostle Paul talking to the Church, the same Church of which we are a part? Seems to me that he is talking to the Church at Corinth and to us. He is talking about spiritual gifts which are given of the Holy Spirit, which were for them and for us. How is it possible with great intellectual dishonesty to discard the will of God for us to have these gifts? Jesus was adamant that we not make any attempt to minister to people without the infilling, baptism of the Holy Spirit. With that baptism, that infilling, comes Power and one or more gifts of the Spirit (Holy Spirit). With it also may (not all persons) come appointment (by God) to one or more offices of the five-fold ministry. Let us discard ignorance and pursue knowledge of spiritual gifts.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (KJV)
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
The Apostle Paul starts off telling that there are a variety of gifts and they are all from the same Holy Spirit. These gifts may function somewhat differently from one person to another, from one Church to another. The expression of the gift may vary to some degree, even a great degree, from one person to another. The Lord Jesus through the Holy Spirit is directing the operation of these gifts however the expression will flow with the personality of the gifted person. The word “profit” in verse seven means to be profitable, advantageous, to contribute, or bring together for the benefit of another according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. These gifts, all nine, will benefit either another person or perhaps the whole congregation. As we end for today let’s take a look at these nine gifts of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:8-11 (KJV)
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

Quit asking God to bless you, you are already blessed, you have the Blessing, give Him something to do by the words of your mouth. Once you know the will of God, decree the thing (Job 22:28, Isaiah 45:11, Mark 11:23). (The Blessing is the Holy Spirit) We have left God way to long with nothing to do in our lives.
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
