CLEANSED BY THE WORD
Yes, even more about submitting today, but I promise I am pushing ahead. Submission today is a foreign word to many and borders on be the equivalent to profanity to some. Greetings and welcome to the Friday series on “Gifts” currently laying a firm foundation for the discussion of The Armor of God. Please take a moment and share these teachings as widely as possible expanding the reach of this Ministry for this is the best news anyone, anywhere, at any time has ever heard. Just who else is offering eternal life and an abundant life now and forever? How has it come to be that we are quick to accept eternal life, salvation, by believing on the name of Jesus, His shed Blood, and Resurrection, but we relegate everything associated with salvation to the “sweet by and by”? Does the Bible teach this?
When we started this journey 36 weeks ago the Holy Spirit prompted me not to go right to the Armor of God but examine the context in which God placed that discussion. For the proper use of any tool, physical or spiritual, the tools use is optimized by understanding what the tool is for and the conditions under which it functions optimally. With regard to the “Armor of God” submission is very important and I will discuss this further in a moment. Prior to this we found that obedience to those in authority, honoring others, walking in love (agape), having a heart of thanksgiving, proving the Word, avoiding sin, avoiding fellowship with darkness, renewing our minds with the thoughts of God, disciplining our minds, and being led by the Holy Spirit. Now, let’s take a moment, continuing to read aloud, and read our primary text for this study. It is crucial to us all to hear Scripture for faith comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17) and it is impossible to please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6).
Ephesians 5:22-26 (KJV)
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
The relationship between Christ and the Church is not one of bullying, domination, or coerciveness and neither is it to between husbands and wives. Central to or the model for the marriage is Christ and the Church relationship. As husbands let us ask ourselves if we are obeying the Word of God concerning our wives, are we selfless towards our wives, and do we recognize we have Blood Covenant with her? That wife husbands is a dear and very precious help-meet given of God and we are to honor her and value her even as Christ honors and values each of us in the body of Christ. Of course, this runs both ways, wives are to honor and treasure their husbands just as each of us honor and treasure our Savior Christ Jesus. I think we can clearly see why it is so vital that we not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. Let’s take a moment and examine a few verses the Holy Spirit spoke through the Apostle Peter.
1 Peter 3:1 (KJV)
1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
Again, we see the admonition, the command, from the Throne of God for wives to be subject or in submission to, their own husbands. This phrase “own husbands” has come up twice, this is apparently a problem in the body of Christ. Remember, the Holy Spirit is comparing the marriage of a man and a woman to the relationship between the Church (each of us individually) and Christ. When we listen to something that is not of Christ, we are listening to another husband not our own. This is spiritual fornication, adultery. This is as serious if not more serious than physical adultery. If the husband is not functioning like Christ, not obeying the Word of God the wife is to remain a model citizen of the Kingdom of God. As I end for today, consider the following passage and we will pick up with it next Friday Lord willing.
1 Peter 3:6-7 (KJV)
6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
