HEALTH, HEALING, AND MIRACLES – PART TEN and MOTHER’S DAY
Sunday – May 13, 2018, Iyar 28, 5778

Welcome back to this wonderful study of Health, Healing, and Miracles. Determine in your heart today that you are building great faith and will receive of God what is needed. It is His will that each of us be every bit whole, He paid with His most precious Blood. Dare to believe. In our study today, we are going to look at the healing of the Centurions servant. Also, at the end of this study I will acknowledge and honor three precious mothers and you should do the same in your family.
Matthew 8:5-10 (KJV)
5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Jesus’ home and ministry headquarters were in Capernaum and He is returning home from a fishing trip (fishers of men). This centurion obviously knows a lot about Jesus, he has heard and has faith that this man, the Anointed Jesus, can heal his servant. Jesus is willing, even eager, to go to the man’s house and heal the servant. He is no doubt tired and wanting to go home but He must be about the Father’s business and that for which He was sent. This centurion is a Roman soldier, a commander of one-hundred troops and he is under authority as well. He knows that he can exercise authority and things happen by the spoken (or written) word and he has faith that Jesus can exercise His authority in the same way. Jesus is dumbfounded. This centurion is a gentile and his faith is greater than the ones to whom the Word of God came. This centurion knew about Jesus, he had heard and had faith that if Jesus was involved his servant would be healed. Notice, he did not go to the priest at the Synagogue. Which reputation are we pursuing that of Jesus or the priest at the Synagogue? What was the outcome of this centurions’ faith?
Matthew 8:13 (KJV)
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
Now, let’s take a look at how Dr. Luke describes the same incident. These are lengthy passages but faith comes by hearing and our ability to hear spiritually is enhanced by the Word of God. Read these passages aloud to yourself and others and meditate on what is being said and how it all occurred.
Luke 7:1-10 (KJV)
1 Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
2 And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
3 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
5 For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.
6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:
7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
This centurion has faith that God will heal his highly valued servant if he can but get Jesus to speak the Word. The connector is Jesus between the centurion, his servant, and God. The faith of the centurion and likely the servant, as well as Jesus’ faith in the Anointing and the Father made this servant well. Faith ignites the Anointing (Holy Spirit) and makes everything right. This centurion has authority over the servant, like a parent has authority over a child, and can therefore be a legal conduit of healing, and restorations of all sorts. The point being, that except for certain circumstances your faith cannot be enough or substituted for the faith of the person seeking healing, they must believe, and their faith will make them whole. Isn’t this just wonderful? Nothing happens in the Kingdom of God without faith. Faith is powered by love, which is obedience to the Word of God. Let’s be slack no more and diligently get about the task of developing great faith.
Finally, don’t forget that this is Mother’s Day and so honor your mother. If she has gone on to be with the Lord then make a point with your whole heart to thank God for giving you a wonderful and Godly mother.
First, I honor, highly value, the mother of our children, Patti Ann who went on to be with
the Lord on the 9th of April. She is pictured here with our three children. I also honor my mother-in-law who is now 93 and pictured here with Patti and I a few years ago.

Finally, but certainly not least, I honor my own mother Edna Wood who has gone on to be with the Lord and is pictured here at her and dads’ 25th Wedding Anniversary with Patti and me.

Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
