HEZEKIAH SHOWED THEM

Good morning, good day, or good evening depending on when you are reading this and welcome back to this amazing Bible Study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. God is so good to give us His Word to guide us in every aspect of our lives. Yes, every aspect of our lives. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture today is of Donna and me last November at Becky’s Diner in Portland Maine. Now, let’s turn our attention to our Bible Study for today continuing to read out loud. You do remember why you are reading out loud don’t you? Before we go to the Isaiah text let’s set the stage so to speak with a passage of the same general time frame in 2nd Chronicles.
2 Chronicles 32:26-29 (KJV)
26 Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
27 And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;
28 Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.
29 Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.
We see here that King Hezekiah was exceedingly rich and so by extension the kingdom of Judea was as well. As I hope you are well aware, there is no problem with exceedingly great riches so long as we stay focused on the Lord, on His Word. Once we start putting our focus on the stuff and swallow the deception that we did it all ourselves we are headed to a hard stop. We must be very careful to make the Lord our God and no one else or nothing else can come even close to Him. God doesn’t care if you have twenty trillion dollars so long as you are focused on Him, in fact He would be thrilled to trust someone with that kind of wealth. A person with that wealth and the following focus would move the Kingdom of God ahead at light speed so to speak.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
All of us must be laser focused on the Kingdom of God, our part in the mission of the Kingdom of God doing it His way at all times. We tend to put things alone in the phrase “all these things shall be added unto you” but I believe it includes all aspects of this natural life. In this context consider the following.
Mark 10:29-30 (KJV)
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
Now, let’s turn our attention back to Hezekiah. As we read the following passage, let’s ask ourselves if we think King Hezekiah worshipped his stuff more than God. I’ll give you a hint, the answer is yes.
Isaiah 39:1-4 (KJV)
1 At that time Merodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered.
2 And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
3 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country unto me, even from Babylon.
4 Then said he, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
King Hezekiah should have known he was in trouble when Isaiah the Prophet showed up asking questions. When the Prophet shows up one should be very curious as to why they are there.
1 Samuel 16:4 (KJV)
4 And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
