HIS FOOTSTOOL – PART ONE

Glory be to God, for salvation, the wonderful gift given with joy by our God, our new Father, our brother Jesus who is our joint-heir, and our Savior. God is good beyond human knowing. Welcome back to this beautiful Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews laying out how our wonderful New Blood Covenant came to be and will be perpetuated forever. Let us review our primary text for this study from the tenth chapter of Hebrews.
Hebrews 10:9-13 (KJV)
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
We are now focusing on the thirteenth verse of the tenth chapter and as you know thirteen is the number of rebellion and depravity. We certainly needed a Savior as we were mired in rebellion and depravity. Our God, our Savior, and our High Priest made a way for us to be completely free of rebellion and depravity. A way to completely eliminate it from not only our spiritual DNA but our physical DNA as well. Verse thirteen makes some shift to Jesus’ function as God, our Lord, our Master, and our King in the Kingdom of God. Kings go to war, kings subjugate enemies not priests. However, kings war best enveloped and lifted up by the prayers of the intercessors (priests in our lives). Notice that Jesus, the Word, refers to these enemies as “his enemies”. You and I have been thinking they (demonic forces and our flesh) were our enemies. Whatever comes against us Jesus takes very personal. Consider the following in that regard.
Acts 9:4 (KJV)
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
Saul, later the Apostle Paul, was persecuting the early Church without mercy. Jesus took that very personally. When demonic powers come against us either directly or through other people Jesus takes that very personal. Jesus is seated in Heaven and He is waiting and expecting His enemies to be made His footstool. Jesus is the King of kings. King Jesus is seated in Heaven and like kings everywhere He is issuing orders for a winning battle plan. When we are not winning we are not following the plan, pure and simple. The orders from the mouth of Jesus, the Word, via the Holy Spirit are to the kings in the earth which are you and me. At the same time, He is speaking to the priests who are called to provide the essential prayer support. As the kings in the earth, those with authority in the earth, we are to follow His orders. We carry out His instructions first by speaking, decreeing, and declaring the will of God into the earth. The Holy Spirit and the holy angels can then spring into action to provide the supernatural aspects of the mission. We will always have to do what we can do naturally. In obedience to God, when we get to the end of what we can do, He does what only He can do to complete the mission. Consider the following Scriptures.
Psalm 8:6 (KJV)
6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
Isaiah 45:11 (KJV)
11 Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.
Whether some like it or not, God does not have authority in the earth, He gave that to mankind in the beginning and Jesus restored full authority for the believer backed by God before His ascension.
Genesis 1:26 (KJV)
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Matthew 28:18-20 (KJV)
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
The word “dominion” in Genesis 1:26 means authority and the word “power” in Matthew 28:18 also means authority. Elohim gave all authority to man in the beginning and Jesus reaffirmed that before His ascension. Man had surrendered his authority to Satan with sin, at least authority that had supernatural or had God’s backing. It was regained by the man who gave one sacrifice for all for all time. He immediately passed that authority right back to man and told them to go in His name and do everything I did and the greater things and teach others to do the same thing. That authority is backed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
