THIS MAN OFFERED ONE SACRIFICE
Tuesday – February 20, 2018

The featured picture is an artists depiction of Jesus healing the sick. This is the man who offered Himself, once for all, a sinless sacrifice for the sins of the world. Your sin and mine were taken care of that day awaiting us to say: “Yes Lord!”. Welcome back to a study of the beautiful portrait of our Lord Jesus Christ laying it all down so that we could have life abundantly. As we prepare to delve back into our wonderful Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews let’s again review our primary text.
Hebrews 10:9-13 (KJV)
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
As we move on from Hebrews 10:10 I believe I am led of the Holy Spirit to make two observations. One is that the word “offering” is singular in number and feminine in gender meaning that this act will bring about a harvest, productivity. Remember, the words of Jesus.
John 12:24 (KJV)
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Thank you, thank you Jesus! The second observation is with regard to the numerology of the verse. Hebrews is the Book of faith (nineteenth book of the New Testament) and our text is in the tenth chapter and tenth verse. Ten is the number of responsibility. The ten is repeated suggesting two responsibilities that are to be done by faith. I believe that the first responsibility was for Jesus to offer Himself by faith in Gods’ Word once for all for fallen men. The second responsibility is for us to accept that sacrifice by faith in the Word. The Word of God is so wonderful!
As we move into the eleventh verse we are again reminded that the High Priests of the Levitical Priesthood could not take away sin by their daily ministry or prescribed animal sacrifices. The people and the priests had a continual consciousness of sin because of the need to sacrifice with any current sin and annually for all of the past sins, the sin was never removed.
As we move into verse twelve (the number of God’s perfect government) we find the phrase “But this man”. This man is Jesus Christ. All that Jesus did from conception in the womb of Mary right up to the His resurrection and restoration was done as a man, a human being. He was a human being in His earthly ministry no different than a born-again Spirit filled Christian today. The Church has been fed the devil’s lies for centuries saying we are far different than Jesus and can never attain to what we witness Him doing in the Gospels. That of course flies in the face of the Truth, of Scripture which I have reviewed and brought forward many times in these teachings. Review the following Scriptures carefully, consider each and every word and then we will be back to our focus in Hebrews.
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Luke 6:40 (KJV)
40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
We will have to find a well-trained theologian to help us misunderstand what the Master Himself has said to us and expects of us all.
Before The Sacrifice came into the earth, starting with Abraham, there were two groups of people in the earth, the Jews and the Gentiles. With the Sacrifice of Christ Jesus, a third group came into being and that group is the Church. Both Jew and Gentile can become a part of the Church by receiving Jesus Christ as Lord. There is no way to Heaven without Jesus. Under the Old Covenant there was a way to await the coming Messiah without going into Hell proper but be sequestered in the Bosom of Abraham. The Bosom of Abraham is no more with the coming of the Word, there is no purgatory. The Church is the perfect government of God. While we are focused more or less on the phrase “this man” let me remind you that “this man” is now our High Priest in Heaven at the right hand of God the Father. Jesus’ function in Heaven as High Priest is as a man. Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father interceding and mediating the Covenant on our behalf. He of course has other functions as God. Our High Priest functions in matters between us and the Father as regards the Blood Covenant and our position in Him. We have His salvation, whatever the Father was willing even Covenant obligated to do for Jesus He will and has already done for us.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
