HOLD FAST
Wednesday – March 7, 2018
Just as this racoon is hanging on fast to an upright to this feeder so must we hold very fast to the One who is able to keep us from falling, cling fast to the Word of God not allowing our faith to waver. To waver is to be of two minds and is followed by destruction. I for one want to be diligent and be presented by my Savior with great joy faultless to His Father and my Father. As we prepare to delve once again into the wonderful Word of God let us read aloud our primary text from the Book of Hebrews.
Hebrews 10:22-27 (KJV)
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
As we peer into Hebrews 10:23 we find the instruction, a command from on high to “hold fast”. The command goes on to tell us to hold fast to “the profession of our faith”. Furthermore, we are not to waver in our profession or our faith. The author points out that the issue is not with God but with us for God is always faithful. God is always faithful to the Covenant. Let us always remember (look at yesterday’s teaching) the proper order of how the Covenant, the Word of God, the promises of God, are going to manifest in our individual lives, and the corporate Church. A Covenant has been spoken by God to the prophets who have proclaimed it into the earth and it is now written for our edification. This Covenant was ratified or confirmed by the precious Blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus. This Covenant provides for whosoever will partake of the Covenant. God does not force the Covenant on anyone, as freewill creatures from the beginning we choose. The provisions of the Covenant flow according to our faith and love (Bible love). We can think of the Covenant as money that God has put in the bank for us and our access to that money is determined by our faith powered by love to possess the money. If we are at home crying out to God for Him to bring us some of that money we will die in our poverty. There are Covenant obligations and benefits and they are all accessed by us in faith, by love, led of the Holy Spirit just as we accessed salvation at the onset of this wonderful journey. Now let’s take a look at this verse in a few other Bible translations.

23 So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgement of it, for He Who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His word.

23 Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:23 (MSG)
23 Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word.
So, whose responsibility is it to maintain a firm grip on our faith, our hope, the promises of God? It is our responsibility! We must get this simple fact firmly into our knowledge. If the promises of God are not manifest in our lives it is because we have not discharged our responsibilities. I know this is not popular and does not tickle the ear but how are the traditions of men and the doctrine of demons working for us? We maintain this firm grip by keeping the Word of God continually in our eyes and in our ears. We are to cast down any and all imaginations (thoughts, ideas) that attempt to supersede (supplant) the Word of God. The problem is never with God. The problem is not the devil. The problem is us.
In our primary text the word translated in the KJV as “profession” is also translated as “confession” and is the transliterated Greek word “homologia” according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Homologia means to say the same thing (words). We are to say the same thing as the Word of God, we are not to say something different and when something different enters our thoughts we are to take it captive and expel it from our thoughts. Yes, you and I are in charge of our thoughts! We are not to confess what we have unless it is of God, we are to confess the promises of God, we are to confess the things that are not as though they were or are. That is not lying, it is saying what God has already said about us. The only way for what He has said about us to come to pass is for us to say the same thing in unwavering faith in love. God is not a liar and when we say what He has already said neither are we liars. Remember, to waver is to be of two minds, it will never bring the promise into our lives, it is a partaking of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Do you remember how that all turned out?
