I AM THE LORD

Greetings dear and precious saints of the ONLY living God and welcome back to The Three Minute Word blog and our study of the wonderful Book of Isaiah. Isn’t the Word just wonderful? It is a Book of life, the ONLY Book of Life. If we will do this Book, we will be bringing the will of God into the earth, days of Heaven upon the earth. As far as it concerns us, we can know and do the will of God and yes, we can even have days of Heaven upon the earth. So, let’s think about why we are not seeing the will of God in our lives, days of Heaven upon the earth, in our lives? Throw that poverty and suffer till we die theology into the ditch, it is a demonic lie. I don’t care who told you, get rid of it! We are studying Isaiah, why did hardship come to the children of God time after time? Not doing the will of God! Challenges come to all of us, the question is this, have we killed our flesh and have we denied the prince of the world a place in us. If you are still reading take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. Please continue reading out loud. The featured picture today is of Donna and me at the Olive Garden here in San Antonio last August.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible Text in the Book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 42:7-12 (KJV)
7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
10 Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
11 Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.
12 Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.
Verse eight is one that is known by many and often quoted or paraphrased. Here God, the Father (not at that time but with the coming of Jesus), announces “I am the LORD: that is my name”. First let’s deal with the word “LORD”. The Hebrew word transliterated to English is yhwh (yud, hey, vah, hey) meaning the self-Existent or Eternal One according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. This points to the One we call the Father but is of course true of all three persons of the Triune God.
This brings us to the phrase that is most commonly quoted, at least in my experience, “my glory will I not give to another”. The word glory here is the Hebrew word transliterated to English as kābôd meaning to be weighty (excellent quality and value), to have splendor, to have copiousness. It also can be translated as to giving honour (old English spelling) according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Although it is not mentioned here (Strong’s) this word glory may also be interpreted as goodness. Look at the following passage.
Exodus 33:18-19 (KJV)
18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
So, we might say that the glory of God is His manifested goodness. The highest manifested goodness of God is the Messiah, the work of Jesus in the earth. God is saying, when you see my manifested goodness you are not to attribute that to anyone or anything other than me. Isn’t this just what His people had been doing? They were in covenant with God but attributing His goodness, glory, to an arm of the flesh and to false gods. This brought devastation into the land removing the protection, the Arm of the Lord. We must be very careful not to think that we have done something God did in or through us. We must be careful that others understand it is God and not us. It is easy for our flesh to rise up in pride sometimes expressed as a false humility.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week. Remember, we love you and there is nothing you can do about it.
