Greetings dear friend and brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, the Lord is so good dear ones. Welcome back to this engaging study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. Today I am moving further into the 47th chapter of Isaiah using the NIV version of Scripture. Please take a moment to share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. If you are not sharing ask yourself and ask the Lord, why not. The featured picture today is provided by a very faithful woman of God, Kathy French. Thank you, Kathy, for this beautiful picture. Ducks are one of my favorite birds to see. The Lord is good.
Now, let’s move ahead into our Bible Study of the wonderful Book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 47:3-7 (NIV)
3 Your nakedness will be exposed and your shame uncovered. I will take vengeance; I will spare no one.”
4 Our Redeemer–the LORD Almighty is his name– is the Holy One of Israel.
5 “Sit in silence, go into darkness, Daughter of the Babylonians; no more will you be called queen of kingdoms.
6 I was angry with my people and desecrated my inheritance; I gave them into your hand, and you showed them no mercy. Even on the aged you laid a very heavy yoke.
7 You said, ‘I will continue forever– the eternal queen!’ But you did not consider these things or reflect on what might happen.
Don’t you think verse six reminds us of Job? God thought and spoke highly concerning Job yet he, Job, came into tragic circumstances. Who pulled the trigger to these events? Was it God? Was it the Devil? Was it Job? Before we look further at Job let’s think back to last week. If you go back a few chapters we find that Babylon was the one God allowed to bring judgment on His people for their sin but they overstepped what the Lord allowed and now judgment is coming on them for their sin. We see all that more or less summarized in the sixth verse above. Job was very rich man and according to God, to Scripture had a record of being upright and righteous. However, a time came when Job sinned (fear).
Job 1:5 (NIV)
5 When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom.
Job is functioning in fear. Fear is sin. The devil got a judgment against Job. This is much like a judge in a natural court might set limits to the punishment.
Job 1:12 (NIV)
12 The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
Job came to recognize his sin.
Job 3:25 (NIV)
25 What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.
Job 6:24 (NIV)
24 “Teach me, and I will be quiet; show me where I have been wrong.
Fear always has adverse consequences which may be catastrophic as in the case of Job. He recognized his sin, repented, prayed for his comforters/tormentors and was restored two-fold.
Job 42:7-10 (NIV)
7 After the LORD had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.
8 So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.”
9 So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite did what the LORD told them; and the LORD accepted Job’s prayer.
10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember the Lord is good and does not kill and destroy to test or try a person. We bring these things into our own lives by sin.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
