JESUS ONCE FOR ALL

Jesus the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
John 1:29 (KJV)
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Jesus as a sinless man was made sin (His body/flesh) and suffered the consequences of my sin and your sin on our behalf, an act of the purest love. Jesus, the Word, was obedient to the Word of God, was certainly selfless, and honored the Blood Covenant. Those of you who follow The Three Minute Word or engage in serious Bible Study know that the Word (Jesus) satisfied all the requirements of Godly love. We are advancing in our Bible Study from this wonderful Book of Hebrews so let us review by reading aloud our new primary text.
Hebrews 10:8-12 (KJV)
8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
As we start off in verse eight we find the word ‘above’ which is referring to the quote from Psalms 40:6-8 indicating that God was never really happy about the animal sacrifices. However, they were necessary until the Messiah, the Lamb of God could come. Let’s look at this verse in the Message Translation.
Hebrews 10:8 (MSG)
8 When he said, “You don’t want sacrifices and offerings,” he was referring to practices according to the old plan.
As we move into the ninth verse we see the coming Savior repeat (verse seven) that He is come to do the will of God. Jesus came to take away the weak and ineffective first system of covering sin and establishing a much better situation. Now, remember this out with the old and in with the new has nothing to do with anything except the sacrificial law which were done away with at Calvary. The will of God including the moral law and civil laws outlined from Genesis to Malachi stand as do all the words of the Prophets except those already fulfilled. The fulfilled words of the Prophets stand as a testimony to the faithfulness of our God. The reason I bring this up is that some have made a doctrine, a doctrine of devils, saying that the law and sin are done away with for we are under grace. Some might refer to this line of thought as” greasy grace”. The law that has been done away with is the law of sin and death which demanded that spiritual death occur immediately with the commission of any sin and all sacrifices for sin prescribed by the Law. The Sacrifice for sin as come and paid the price of all sin. At salvation we enter the new Blood Covenant, we are made a new creature, or creation in Him. He is our safety net and we receive undeserved time and mercy to repent. The other good news is that when we confess our sin in true repentance (change our mind 180° and agree with Him 100%) He (God) is faithful and just to forgive us (1 John 1:9).
The use of the word ‘will’ in verse ten is interesting. It is still talking about the ‘will of God’ as noted in preceding verses. This word ‘will’ means determination. So, it was and is the determined purpose of God that we be sanctified (made holy) by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ. Notice at the end of verse ten is the phrase “once for all”. The “for all” is in italics which in the King James Version means it was not in the manuscript but added for ease of reading or clarity. In this case the context and full counsel of Scripture testifies to its accuracy. Christ Jesus’ single offering was sufficient for all persons for all time. In the King James Version, it is always important to read the verse with italics with and without the italicized words. Also, be reminded that Scripture was not written in chapter and verse nor with punctuation but was in paragraphs. Remember our discussion some time back regarding Genesis 17:17.
Genesis 17:17 (KJV)
17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?
Removing the punctuation and the italicized words makes all the difference. It changes this from a statement of doubt to a declaration of faith. Now back to verse ten of our primary text. The word “offering” is the Greek word transliterated to English as: ‘prosphora’ according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. You can see a basis for the English word prosperous. Our prosperity which results from productivity or proper use of the Covenant is a high (if not the highest) priority for God following salvation. The other interesting thing is that this word “offering” is singular in number and feminine in gender meaning that this offering would lead to productivity as do all other offerings to God. I will pickup right here next week the Lord willing.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
