Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to my new series on the Bible Book of Jude. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. The Lord is good. Remember, we study not just read the Word of God and we do it to renew our minds so that we are conformed to Him and not the world. This is not some religious exercise to be checked off for the day.
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Remember these Scriptures from a few weeks ago?
Romans 15:4 (KJV)
4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Notice the word “learning”? And remember this one?
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Notice the word “correction” and the others that we be mature in Him and well capable of good works. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary text in Jude. Remember to be reading out loud.
Jude 1:1-3 (KJV)
1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
2 Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.
3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Last week I started to speak about how the very introduction of this Book (Epistle) points to the humility of the writer. The writer, Jude, lived in the same house with Jesus for a number of years yet he does not mention it. He did not pull the “I used to live with Jesus” card. Would you or I? Humility is fundamental to our walk with the Lord. No humility no manifestation of God in our lives. Last week we found out that it is impossible to please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6). Now, we are finding out the absolute importance of humility. With reference to God humility means that we are completely (24/7) submitted to God, His thoughts, talk, and ways. Let’s look at some Scripture.
1 Peter 5:5-9 (KJV)
5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Notice all that submission talk in verse five, no the writer is not cussing, and notice we are to be clothed with humility. We, not God, put it on ourselves and we don’t take it off, it is a permanent part of our clothing, spiritual covering. Then we see that God resists the proud (opposite to humility). How many of those reading this want God Himself resisting you? Like everything else in the Kingdom of God we must take the first step, in this case “humble ourselves” “under the mighty hand of God”. The mighty hand of God is no other than the Holy Spirit Himself. A great place to be. Some of the heavy lifting for us comes in verse seven, the casting of our cares on Him. This word care means anxiety, care that brings disruption to the personality and the mind according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. I will talk a little more about humility, submission, and casting our care next Saturday, Lord willing.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week.
