Welcome saint and sinner alike to this exciting and enlightening teaching of the Kingdom of God. This is number one-hundred and sixteen and it is not old nor boring. Teaching and demonstrating the Kingdom of God was the main thrust of Jesus’ Ministry in the earth. When He sent out the disciples and the seventy, they were to teach the Kingdom of God and heal all manner of sickness. What do you suppose we are to be doing today? Let’s again turn to our anchor Scripture for guidance.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Again, did you notice this is a command? Our highest and first priority is to seek the Kingdom of God which is righteous, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. We are to model Gods’ standards as we walk in Bible peace and joy. Bible peace is to be joined with the God in purpose, be prosperous, be alive in our spirit again a unified whole (spirit, soul, body), quietness, confident of the full provision of God, and the knowledge of being one with God. This comes by knowledge or who Christ is and who we are and what we have in Him. Finally, but far from least we are to do all thing God’s way. Be honest before the Lord, is this your life? Let’s move forward into the next mention of the Kingdom of God.
Acts 1:1-5 (ESV)
1 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach,
2 until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.
3 He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me;
5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Dr. Luke, one of the original twelve, is said to be the human author of the book of Acts. Do you see what the two main things are that Jesus spoke of before His ascension to the right Hand of the Father? He continued teaching them about the Kingdom of God and He reminded them of the Promise of the Father. Notice in the preceding text Jesus tells them they will be “baptized with the Holy Spirit” which means to be fully immersed in completely covered by. In the following text Jesus tells them the Holy Spirit will come upon them. In neither text does Jesus say nor does the text suggest the coming within.
Acts 1:6-9 (ESV)
6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”
7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
Referring back to the baptism of the Holy Spirit referred to above which is a full immersion we see on the day of Pentecost that they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:4 (KJV)
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
We see a filling of this temple and a full immersion of the temple in the Holy Spirit. Might we conclude that when we are born again that we are not filled with the Holy Spirit although He resides within?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV)
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
More on all of this next Saturday.
TAKE HOME:
- Jesus emphasized the Kingdom of God and the baptism in the Holy Spirit just before His ascension.
- Salvation brings authority, dominion, but the baptism of the Holy Spirit brings the Power of God.
- The Church emphasizes speaking in tongues, but Jesus emphasized receiving Power (miracle working power).
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
