THE MIGHTY GOD

Greetings precious and wonderful saints, my brothers and sister in Christ Jesus. Thank you for joining us today in our ongoing study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. Please take a moment and share these teachings as widely as possible to expand our reach with the Truth. Thank you for sharing. The beautiful featured picture today was taken by Donna and me a couple of years ago about this time near the dam in Mount Vernon Maine. The pictures tomorrow and Wednesday will also be from the same area. This is an area in which I spent a lot of time all of my life up until Medical School and then on every return trip to Maine from Missouri and later Texas. Lots of really good memories. Now, let’s turn our attention to our study and continue reading our primary Bible text out loud.
Isaiah 9:6-8 (KJV)
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
8 The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.
As you are well aware this Book is full of Messianic passages such as the one, we are now studying. The whole Old Testament is very instructive for them then and us now. Are we paying attention? Perhaps you are one who has written off the Old Testament as it is called saying it does not apply to us. I hate to be the one to tell you (not really) that every last bit of it applies to us even at this very moment.
1 Corinthians 10:9-12 (KJV)
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. (Bold added)
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
“All these things” referring back to the Old Testament are an example (ensample – old spelling) for us to learn from and be admonished (cautioned) by. Have we, parts of the Church, tempted Christ especially in this pandemic? The result will not be different now than then (verses 9 & 10 above), God is just. These results were not what happened to the heathen but those who claim the Lord as their Lord. Judgment starts with the house of God (1 Pe 4:17). Let’s take a look at one more passage regarding the attention we must give to the whole Old Testament.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Has the definition of the word ‘all’ changed when I wasn’t looking? The benefits of doing verse sixteen are spelled out in verse seventeen. Without verse sixteen (the whole Old and New Testaments) one cannot be complete, completely furnished unto all the good works God has prepared for each and everyone. So, do we want to do the whole will of God or just tinker around the edges and hope all is okay? Now, for a moment let’s look back at our primary text and pick up with verse six (number of man) and the phrase “The mighty God”. This phrase means exactly what it looks like, the coming Messiah is The Almighty God. Review the following passage and we will pick up on this tomorrow and reconcile Jesus being God and man.
Matthew 1:18-25 (KJV)
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, doubt it not, and speak over yourself and your family in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
