Greetings and blessings from Awake, Arise, and Triumph Ministries and The Three Minute Word Publication. Today is a Federal Holiday in the United States called Labor Day. The following is a direct quote from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. “Labor Day in the United States is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country.”
This holiday like most if not all the other holidays we celebrate today are focused on the creature, the created, and not the Creator. That is not to say that American workers have not been a critical component for businesses of all kinds. And there has been a role for labor unions. However, what about the business owner that took the risk with his or her own money to start the business? What about the government that created and maintained an environment in which an entrepreneur would take a risk with their time, money, and reputation? Finally, and most importantly, America is not an exceptional nation because of any of these things but because of our covenant with God. This nation is exceptional because it is Christian. The Blessing of God is upon America even in this horribly fallen state.
The first nation, people, blessed of God was Israel but when Israel forgot God, they descended into bondage time after time. America is in bondage and doesn’t even know it. It is like the story of the frog in a pot of cold water with the water very slowly being heated and before the frog realizes it, he is cooked. We are cooked but we have an option the frog didn’t have and that is repentance followed by the tearing down of the high places. High places are ungodly ideas spoken and acted upon which result in stealing, killing, and destruction in individual lives and the life of this nation. Our ungodly leaders and followers then advocate more laws, more regulations, in short more government in the ongoing effort to be our own god rather than turning to God and His ways in repentance.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the wonderful Book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 57:18-21 (NIV)
18 I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will guide him and restore comfort to him,
19 creating praise on the lips of the mourners in Israel. Peace, peace, to those far and near,” says the LORD. “And I will heal them.”
20 But the wicked are like the tossing sea, which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud.
21 “There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”
As we have studied down through this Bible Book of Isaiah can anyone say that our God is not longsuffering. For this, His longsuffering, I am eternally grateful. Sometimes my skull is really thick and it is easy to get caught up in our own little flesh universe. In our Isaiah text the Lord is continuing to cajole His people to return to Him. He keeps reiterating the benefits of serving and obeying the only real God. Are we so different? Repeatedly in verses eighteen and nineteen the Lord says I know your ways but I will heal you and give you peace. Remember healing encompasses every arena of life as does peace. He says in that day you will praise me; peace will be yours, and I will heal you. Tomorrow we will look at three words in our text and they are heal, comfort, and peace.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
