THE LORD’S HAND IS NOT SHORT

Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to our Bible Study of this amazing Book of Isaiah. God is so good to give this ancient people and us a light for our path. The featured picture is of an old Church in the State of Delaware. This is to remind us to pray for our local Church, the Church in our State, and the Church (body of Christ) in our nation. Much of the body of Christ is outside your denomination or lack of denomination. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 59:1-4 (NASB)
1 Behold, the LORD’S hand is not so short That it cannot save; Nor is His ear so dull That it cannot hear.
2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.
3 For your hands are defiled with blood And your fingers with iniquity; Your lips have spoken falsehood, Your tongue mutters wickedness.
4 No one sues righteously and no one pleads honestly. They trust in confusion and speak lies; They conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity.
Remember that Scripture was not written in chapters and verses nor with the various punctuations. My point is that our text is a continuation of Chapter 58. Perhaps we could read the first verse of this new chapter as saying; the problem is not my Power or my hearing. As the Lord continues speaking through His Prophet, He points out that you (His people) are the problem. Same as today. Even though the text is presented as Isaiah speaking about the Lord, I doubt that these are Isaiah’s words but the Words of the Lord being relayed. In any event, whether this be the case or not, even if Isaiah is reporting His observation of the situation, it is the Truth. We know it is the Truth for it is supported by the full counsel of Scripture.
As we look more closely at verse two of our text, we hear the Prophet saying (you are reading out loud, right?) that the Lord has hidden His face and does not hear you. It is not that the Lord is unaware, not seeing or hearing but in sin we do not have legal or proper standing before Him. We are told that it is the sin that has caused the separation. When we are not partaking of our Promised Land there can be many reasons but it boils down to sin, and unbelief (which is sin). Even though we are still sons and are righteous in Christ Jesus our sin (iniquity) brings us out of fellowship primarily because we have violated the Law of Love and the first Commandant to have no other gods before the Lord.
Exodus 20:3 (NASB)
3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.
Matthew 22:37-38 (NASB)
37 And He said to him, ” ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’
38 “This is the great and foremost commandment.
When we enter into sin, always our choice, we have put another god ahead of the Lord and are not acting in obedience, period. We can slice and dice our excuses all we want, but this is the bottom line. Let us put away our idols and self and serve the Only Living God, the only One with Word of eternal life and all things good.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
