RIGHTEOUSNESS AND SALVATION
Video link: https://youtu.be/oPs-YQ-lmqs
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to this in-depth study of the wonderful Bible Book of Isaiah. The Lord is so good to give us His Word, a light to our path. We have no excuse for not knowing the ways of God and imitating them. The featured picture today is of a beautiful church building in the State of Maryland. This is to remind us to pray for the body of Christ. There is a desperate need for the Truth in the body of Christ. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 59:16-19 (NASB)
16 And He saw that there was no man, And was astonished that there was no one to intercede; Then His own arm brought salvation to Him, And His righteousness upheld Him.
17 He put on righteousness like a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; And He put on garments of vengeance for clothing And wrapped Himself with zeal as a mantle.
18 According to their deeds, so He will repay, Wrath to His adversaries, recompense to His enemies; To the coastlands He will make recompense.
19 So they will fear the name of the LORD from the west And His glory from the rising of the sun, For He will come like a rushing stream Which the wind of the LORD drives.
I left off last Thursday speaking about the Messiah, Jesus, the Word, God Himself putting on “righteousness like a breastplate”. Why would He need to put it on? Doesn’t He already have right-standing with the Father? Of course, He did in Heaven as God but He is about to become a man like any other excepting without sin, without the fallen nature, without flesh contaminated by sin, DNA contaminated by the curse, the effects of sin. Just like us He needed to have an unshakeable knowledge of right-standing with the Father. His thought life could have no room for, or make room for, any conflicting ideas, thoughts, fiery darts of the enemy. We also must be so single minded, full of light, full of Truth, that any conflicting information is immediately rejected. We are talking about knowledge of the Truth that we believe and are anchored upon, fully persuaded of. Emotions, feelings, or feeling something have no role here. Let’s now turn our attention back to the Ephesians text. Notice that the Truth is protective armor and is listed before righteousness. Righteousness is a part of the body of Truth of which we are to have knowledge, unshakeable knowledge.
Ephesians 6:14-18 (NASB)
14 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS,
15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE;
16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,
Now, looking back at our primary Bible text in Isaiah we find the Messiah putting “a helmet of salvation on His head”. The word head signifies the one or thing which is first and/or above. Consider the following Bible passage.
Colossians 1:17-20 (NASB)
17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.
19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him,
20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
By the way, the phrase “firstborn from the dead” is not referring to His physical body being brought from death to life. I is also referring, and most importantly, His Spirit being brought from death to life. Jesus got a resurrection of His Spirit and restoration as fully God just as our spirit is resurrected from death to life at salvation. Jesus got a glorified body at His resurrection and we are getting a body like unto His at the Rapture.
O what a Savior! O what a Father!
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
