SOME PEOPLE
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to our study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. We will be diving further into the 46th Chapter today, only 20 chapters to go to finish the Book of Isaiah. Before we proceed, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. We have a responsibility to bring the Truth to as many as possible in our assignment. The featured picture today of seven columns or pillars is to remind us to pray for the seven pillars (gates, spheres of influence, mountains) of society. By the way these pillars exist and have their origin in Heaven. When I remind us to pray and when Scripture tells us to pray it does not mean to cry out to the Lord to do something about it. It is a time when we go to the Lord and to Scripture and determine what our part is, what our decree is, and then initiate thanksgiving for Him doing His part, the part we cannot do.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and continue reading out loud, yes, out loud. It is not a complete waste to read silently but you will not build or increase faith (Romans 10:17) and it is impossible to please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6). Now, to our text.
Isaiah 46:5-9 (NLT)
5 “To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?
6Some people pour out their silver and gold and hire a craftsman to make a god from it. Then they bow down and worship it!
7 They carry it around on their shoulders, and when they set it down, it stays there. It can’t even move! And when someone prays to it, there is no answer. It can’t rescue anyone from trouble.
8 “Do not forget this! Keep it in mind! Remember this, you guilty ones.
9 Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me.
As you will recall from last Thursday, the Lord is asking His people, His rebellious people who is like Him to whom can they (or us) compare Him. Does He have an equal, is there any force even close? This is in the context of Him pointing our that He told them what was coming aforetime if they continued in disobedience. He has demonstrated just how impotent their idols, false gods are, and even the arm of flesh they leaned on. These people and untold billions have over six thousand years worshipped the created rather than the Creator.
Romans 1:20-23 (NLT)
20 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.
22 Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools.
23 And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles.
Just think about these verses from the Book of Romans and reflect back on Isaiah 46:6. Oh the mercy and longsuffering of our God.

Who thinks that this is even close to rational? Yet, this has gone on for millennia by people just like us and even now in our time. What might some of these gods be? What about sports, what about Hollywood, what about money, and so on?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
