BUT YOU WHO FORSAKE THE LORD

Greetings dear and precious saints of the only Living God and welcome back to this enlightening and empowering study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. How blessed we are to have the very thoughts of God and to know the laws of His Kingdom. I was going to use the word boundaries but I didn’t want any misunderstanding so I used laws instead. The Kingdom of God, of course, in terms or size is boundless, unlike the boundaries of a town, state, or nation. What it does have as a Kingdom are laws which keep us safe and in the will of God. The featured picture today is of the State House in Salem Oregon. Its purpose is to remind us to pray for all that are in authority especially those in the various levels of government. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 65:9-12 (NKJV)
9 I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, And from Judah an heir of My mountains; My elect shall inherit it, And My servants shall dwell there.
10 Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, And the Valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down, For My people who have sought Me.
11 “But you are those who forsake the LORD, Who forget My holy mountain, Who prepare a table for Gad, And who furnish a drink offering for Meni.
12 Therefore I will number you for the sword, And you shall all bow down to the slaughter; Because, when I called, you did not answer; When I spoke, you did not hear, But did evil before My eyes, And chose that in which I do not delight.”
As we go forward into verse eleven, we see the Lord’s attention once again on the disobedient, the idol worships, those he calls blasphemers (Verse 7). They have forsaken the Lord for idols. They have forsaken worship in Jerusalem for wherever they please. The Lord mentions two pagan deities by name that they are worshiping, Gad and Meni. Dear ones, it does not get any more serious, in a very negative way, than this with the Lord. This is a violation of the first Commandment. This brings a curse not only on the idol worshiper but their descendants to the third and fourth generations.
Consider verse twelve very closely in context and the full counsel of Scripture. Why are these people numbered for the sword and are destined for slaughter? The Lord has been telling for pretty much this whole Book. They are disobedient to His commands; they have turned aside to other gods. The Lord is not directly causing these things because He is fed up with it. These people have made choices, bad choices, when they knew the Truth. Not to be confusing, there are negative consequences to all disobedience whether it is done in knowledge or ignorance. Let me again remind us all of three very important verses/passages.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (NKJV)
1 “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth.
2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God:
Any mention of the curse here? Any mention that the Lord might bring calamity to test you?
Deuteronomy 28:14-15 (NKJV)
14 So you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
15 “But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:
Any mention of the blessing here in disobedience? The thief comes when our disobedience gives him an opening and the Lord comes in our obedience.
John 10:10 (NKJV)
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
