EIGHT DAYS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING – PART ONE
Sunday – March 24, 2024, Adar Bet 14, 5784
Greetings dear friends, brothers and sisters in Christ, and welcome back to the Sunday Bible Study. Today is traditionally known as Palm Sunday or the Triumphant Entry. As we will see, it might be better referred to as, Behold the Spotless Lamb of God. This day should more accurately be celebrated on the 10th of Nisan on the Hebrew Calendar which starts at 6 p.m. the 17th of April on our Gregorian Calendar. It is common that Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Resurrection Sunday (commonly called Easter) are treated as three separate events when in reality they are one event with each part being vital to the whole. My emphasis today will focus primarily on the Palm Sunday part. Be sure you are reading out loud.
All of this has its real origins before the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8) but is prophetically illustrated in the first recorded Passover.
Exodus 12:1-6 (KJV)
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
The month of Nisan, also called Abib, is the beginning of the Biblical year not the Civil year. The Civil year starts with the first day of the seventh month on the Biblical Calendar with the Feast of Rosh Hashanah (Blowing of the Trumpets). Back to our text.
We see here that on the 10th of Nisan the perfect lamb was set aside and would be observed until the 14th of Nisan when it would be sacrificed. This would be a Sunday to us, the first day of the week to the Hebrew. I hope you all can see a very clear picture of Jesus especially in verse five of the Exodus text. Jesus is our Passover; His Blood protects us and our house just as it did these ancient Israelites.
Exodus 12:13 (KJV)
13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
Jumping ahead for a moment, Palm Sunday is the 10th of Nisan, Jesus was in and out of Jerusalem the next five days and hangs on the cross the 13th of Nisan, is buried just before twilight the start of the 14th of Nisan and rises before dawn the 17th of Nisan. This was a Sunday, the first day of the week on the Hebrew Calendar. As Jesus died physically and spiritually (not the soul) at 3 P.M. on Mt. Moriah the 13th of Nisan many sacrificial lambs for Passover were also dying to be consumed the 14th of Nisan. It was eight days from the setting aside of the Lamb of God until the Resurrection signifying a new beginning. A new beginning for all of mankind. Eight days that changed everything. Now, back to Egypt and more of the Passover account. Most know about the parting of the Red Sea. The Red Sea is symbolic of the Blood of Jesus that would save His people, Jew and Gentile alike, one day.
Exodus 14:21-22 (KJV)
21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
The same Blood (Blood Covenant) that saved them, saves us, but destroyed the devil (Pharoah), his hoards (Egyptian army). These and all who will not enter into Blood Covenant with God are open to the ravages of the demons.
Exodus 14:27-28 (KJV)
27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.
This was on the third day after leaving the kingdom of darkness, this is representative of the Resurrection and salvation available to all mankind. Another fifty days and they will be at Mt. Sinai and receive the Law, the first Pentecost.
Lord willing, next Sunday I will continue this discussion of EIGHT DAYS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING – PART TWO. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
