CONSIDER YOUR WAYS

Greeting dear children of God and welcome back to this instructive study of the Bible Book of Haggai. The Lord is so good to give us a lamp for our feet, and light for our path (Psalm 119:105). Remember the words of the Apostle Paul.
Romans 15:4 (KJV)
4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Romans 15:4 (NIV)
4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
As we are preparing to dive into our study today of the Book of Haggai which is just as applicable to Gods’ people today as in that day, I want to repeat a word about Bible hope as in Romans 15:4. Bible hope is not like worldly hope that is hit or miss. Bible hope is an expectation that is certain to manifest when the laws of the Kingdom are met. It is not automatic because you are born again. Now, let’s turn to our primary Bible text reading out loud.
Haggai 1:4-7 (KJV)
4 Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?
5 Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.
7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
As you will recall the Lord through the Prophet Haggai is asking His people a question. The Lord said you have houses filled with luxury items yet my house is in ruins. In effect, perhaps in today’s common language, He might say, what gives. It is now 520 B.C.; the decree was given to return to the land including Jerusalem in 538 B.C. Eighteen years have gone by, although some work has been done on the Temple, for the most part it is in ruins, especially in the eyes of the Lord. Other eyes don’t count when His thoughts are known.
Now, the Lord of Hosts tells His people to “Consider your ways”. What is it time to do when He says this, to them, to us? It is not time to offer excuses, or think He must be talking to someone else. It is time for each and every person to consider every aspect of their lives. Especially asking themselves where are my priorities. What comes before the Temple (local Church). The Lord then points out that they are living by the painful toil and sweat system of the world and not His system, His Covenant. Could we suppose it has to do with how they are treating the Temple. What about you and me? Does verse six describe your life or what you observe around you concerning Gods’ people? Verse six is a just enough and sometimes not enough description of life certainly not the blessing of Abraham, nor the abundance Jesus died to give the people of God. This is not the life God has planned for any of His children. Now in verse seven the Lord again instructs His people again to “Consider your ways”. This is very serious dear ones. Let each of us consider our ways.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here with our study of Haggai next Saturday. The Lord is good, He is not the source of your problems, and He cannot lie!
