Greetings dear children of God and welcome back to this Sunday Bible Study continuing with controversial topic of “tongues”. This will be a multiweek study. Also, let me say right up front that I am not apposed to speaking in tongues but don’t believe that the Bible supports how it is practiced in many places today. I believe the Bible supports that the speaking in tongues has a vital role to play in the life of all Christians. I will present the Bible evidence for this over the next several weeks.

Being “Pentecostal” and speaking in tongues has come to be a religion in and of itself to many. In some circles the leadership and pew alike reek with pride and arrogance about speaking in tongues among other things. They shout about how free they are because they can raise their hands, clap, hoop and holler, dance, and speak in tongues. No, dear ones that is the worst bondage of all, thinking one is doing the will of God, all the while out of the will of God, and out of order. Where in Scripture was anyone called to be Pentecostal (not a denomination, an ism [doctrine, ideology], a movement) or for that matter any of the myriad of other denominations. If these things are not a God idea, then whose idea, was it? We dear ones are to be Christians, followers of Christ Jesus.

Acts 11:26 (KJV)

26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Last Sunday as I launched into this study at the direction of the Holy Spirit as I prayed in tongues in my study, the following is the first Scripture presented. This Scripture not only foretells the coming of tongues to the Church but to whom and how God speaks to His children.

Isaiah 28:9-13 (KJV)

9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? And whom shall he make to understand doctrine? Them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
