Greeting dear children of God and welcome back to this instructive study of the Bible Book of Haggai. The Lord is so good to give us a lamp for our feet, and light for our path (Psalm 119:105). Remember the words of the Apostle Paul.
Romans 15:4 (KJV)
4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Romans 15:4 (NIV)
4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Bible hope is an expectation that is certain to manifest when the laws of the Kingdom are met. It is not automatic because you are born again. Now, let’s turn to our primary Bible text reading out loud.
Haggai 1:7-11 (KJV)
7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.
9 Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
Today let’s pick up with verse nine. Again, the Lord returns to reminding them that they are living far under His will for their lives, they are living under the curse. Why? Sin! In today’s jargon, the Lord is really ticked that His House remains in waste while they have built nice homes for themselves. I have taught a whole lot on love. Do God’s people here love Him so He may love them? Is He a priority so He can make them a priority? Are they honoring Him so that He may honor them? I hope you got all these right. The answer to all three questions is NO! The Lord goes on to talk about the lack of rain in the land limiting their crops. Why? They have not put Him first. What about you and me?
The Lord continues in verse eleven to explain why they labor hard but reap little. They have not put Him first. They are not worshipping Him. They have put their own homes before His which is idol worship. Consider the following passage that Zechariah prophesies about the Millennial Reign but is true in ancient Israel, and today upon the earth.
Zechariah 14:16-17 (KJV)
16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here with our study of Haggai next Saturday. The Lord is good, He is not the source of our problems, and He cannot lie!
