Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 45:8-11 (KJV)
8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.
9 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
10 Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?
11 Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.
Moving into verse ten we find the Lord using the example of a child and the child’s father and/or mother instead of a potter and the pot created. We see this attitude around us today with children even adults blurting out usually in anger that they didn’t ask to be born.
Isaiah 45:10 (NLT)
10 How terrible it would be if a newborn baby said to its father,
‘Why was I born?’ or if it said to its mother, ‘Why did you make me this way?’”
This is a grievous lack of honor for the parents and a failure to recognize the privilege of being born. First the dishonoring of the parents, no matter the circumstances, is sin in the eyes of God.
Deuteronomy 5:16 (KJV)
16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Who does not want a long full life? In addition, there is a failure to recognize the privilege of being born to serve the Lord, to be a part of the family of God for eternity. This is an affront to God, when we shake our fist at our parents and at God and declare that we didn’t ask to be born. The level of rebellion and absolute ignorance is staggering, it is so wonderful that we have a merciful God who recognizes our frame, that we are but flesh.
Psalm 78:38-40 (KJV)
38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
God had compassion upon this ancient chosen people so He has compassion upon this generation.
