Greetings to all and welcome back to our study of the Bible Book of 2nd John. I often refer to the Apostle John as the Apostle of love, it is all through the gospel of John as well as his three epistles. It is love, divine level love, that brought redemption to all who will receive it, and love of God is what will take us to Heaven. This is the love (agapē/ agapaō) that only God (three persons) and His children can manifest, walk in. This love is manifest by obedience to the Word of God, living a selfless lifestyle, and abiding in Blood Covenant with God. This love emanates from our will based upon our knowledge of this love. This love is not emotion based but emotions may be expressed secondarily. Now, let’s dive into our primary text in 2nd John.
2 John 1:1-3 (KJV)
1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
2 For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
Today let’s examine the third verse of our text. Here we see at least three spiritual physical realities we desire, we see who gives them, and we see the two qualifiers. Who does not want the Grace of God at work in your life? I capitalize it for it is of Divine origin and is the Holy Spirit. Who would not want mercy? And I think we all crave peace. We see from the text that these three desirable realities are from God the Father and the Son of the Father. If you don’t have them, you don’t have grace, mercy, or peace, this is Bible Grace, Bible mercy, and Bible peace.
Grace is the Divine influence on us and on others to bring favor, benefits, and gifts into our lives. Grace can help us to change, influence change in our heart. This is done by bringing conviction, disturbing our conscience, of wrong thinking and ways by the written Word of God, preaching, etc. He, Grace, can also influence others to bring good things into our lives. He goes ahead of us preparing the way.
Mercy is His or others compassion, pity, forgiveness, kindness, leniency when we don’t deserve it but in Christ He deserves it.
This brings us to peace. I have spoken, taught, about peace many times and even how peace is synonymous with salvation. Peace comes with being joined with God in purpose, His purposes. Peace is prosperity, one cannot really be at peace or substantially impact the Kingdom of God without prosperity. Peace is quietness being settled because we know who we are and whose we are. We have the rest or provision of God, all that Heaven and earth has to offer is ours to accomplish our Kingdom assignments. At salvation we are once again a unified whole, our spirit is alive to God, our soul is being transformed to the ways of God, and our flesh will soon be incorruptible. And finally, but far from least we are one with God.
So, how has all of this become a reality in the spirit and potential for our lives on the earth? The answer is in our text. Let’s look at the terminal portion of the third verse which reads “in truth and love.” Oh, so it’s not automatic. No, it is not. Like everything else in the Kingdom of God we have a vital role. Let’s think of obtaining things in the Kingdom as a three-step process. First God makes it available at salvation, the reality being it is already ours but not manifest in the physical. The second step is obtaining it by faith, in love, as directed of the Holy Spirit. The third step is the work of the Holy Spirit bring the manifestation. Grace, mercy, and peace from the Father and the Lord Jesus come as we walk in Truth which is the Word of God and walk in love (agapē/agapaō).
TAKE HOME:
- It is love, divine level love, that brought redemption to all who will receive it, and love of God is what will take us to Heaven.
- God the Father and God the Son provide by the agency of the Holy Spirit grace, mercy, and peace as we walk Truth and love.
- Obtaining things in the Kingdom is a three-step process. First God makes it available at salvation, the reality being it is already ours but not manifest in the physical. The second step is our obtaining it by faith, in love, as directed of the Holy Spirit. The third step is the work of the Holy Spirit bring the manifestation. Grace, mercy, and peace from the Father and the Lord Jesus come as we walk in Truth which is the Word of God and our walking in love (agapē/agapaō).
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
