Greetings dear saints and elect of God whom I love in the Truth. Those of you that have been following this Ministry know that we finished an extended study of 1st John a couple of weeks ago and now we have moved into 2nd John. This canonized Bible Book was written by the Apostle John, one of the original twelve, it is thought between the years 85-95 AD. The Apostle John is the human vessel by inspiration of the Holy Spirit who wrote the Gospel of John, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John, as well as the Book of Revelation. He was the Apostle of love (agapē/agapaō) not that we are not all called to walk in this love. If you are not sure about this, get my book: Awake, Arise, and Triumph – Be Love. With this in mind I find it more than interesting that he is the only one of the original twelve not to die a violent death.
WHAT WILL WE LEARN TODAY?
- An elder is one with maturity in the Lord and not based on age. One may be considered an elder based on a position held in a Church but are not a true elder without continual developing of spiritual maturity.
- A person is an elect one in the Kingdom of God when they have been chosen of God and translated from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light. All are called but only those who chose Christ are the elect.
- A rich and abundant entry is provided into “the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” as we pursue a Godly character (2 Peter Chapter One).
Today I will be continuing with the first verse of 2nd John.
2 John 1:1 (KJV)
1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
Last Friday I spent time talking about the term “elder” from our text. It does not refer to someone who is elderly but someone we is mature, and could we even say more mature than we were at the time. Becoming an elder is not a function of time but of increasing maturity in the Gospel. Some might argue that an elder is someone with a formal position in the Church. I would not argue that point however some may be aware of people with a formal position/title in the Church we are not mature nor maturing in the Word of God.
Last week we also looked at the term “elect” as in “the elect lady”. The word itself has to do with being chosen, in this case by the Father, by God. We also discovered that the word “elect” is derived from a word meaning to be elected or chosen with according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. Jesus spoke of this Truth.
Matthew 22:14 (KJV)
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
We see that many are called, in fact all are called, but only a few are chosen. Why is one chosen? Those who choose the Jesus as Lord were chosen or plucked out of darkness into light. Reminds me of the wide and narrow ways. Jesus speaks of this.
Matthew 7:13-14 (KJV)
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
The Apostle Peter talks about ratifying our calling and making our election (being an elect one) sure.
2 Peter 1:10-11 (AMP)
10 Because of this, brethren, be all the more solicitous and eager to make sure (to ratify, to strengthen, to make steadfast) your calling and election; for if you do this, you will never stumble or fall.
11 Thus there will be richly and abundantly provided for you entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
TODAY’S TAKE HOME:
- An elder is one with maturity in the Lord and not based on age. One may be considered an elder based on a position held in a Church but are not a true elder without continual developing of spiritual maturity.

Lord willing, I will resume right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
