WEALTH – HEALTH – THOUGHTS

Greetings dear saints and others. Welcome to the second week of our Bible Study of 3rd John. We started our study of the “little Johns” on the 20th of October 2023. I have missed a few Fridays for one reason or another but for the most part I have dealt with 1st and 2nd John and now we are delving into 3rd John. Without further ado lets delve into our Scripture.
3 John 1:1-4 (ESV)
1 The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2 Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.
3 For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
We find in the second verse the Apostle John praying “that all may go well with you”. Many other translations translate that portion of Scripture that he may prosper.
3 John 1:2 (KJV)
2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3 John 1:2 (AMP)
2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your soul keeps well and prospers.
Although this is not a promise of God to Gaius but a prayer by the Apostle for Gaius an examination of the whole counsel of Scripture would affirm this is the will of God. John is praying according to Scripture. In fact, we have a Covenant of wealth.
Deuteronomy 8:18 (KJV)
18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
Our wealth and our heath are very important to God and He puts wealth ahead of health. Notice in our text 3rd John 1:2 that wealth is mentioned before health, in the same is true of the two verses to follow.
Psalm 105:37 (KJV)
37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.
Acts 10:38 (KJV)
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
This whole poverty mentality that permeates much of the body of Christ must be eradicated. This poverty thinking has hobbled the body of Christ as a whole and individuals from living and demonstrating the good news. The very first thing out of Jesus mouth at the beginning of His earthly Ministry had to do with finances.
Luke 4:18 (ESV)
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
What would be good news for the poor? You don’t need to be poor no more! You’re going to be rich in Heaven? Yes, but that is directly reflected by what we did on the earth. What about days of Heaven upon the earth? Financial prosperity is for those who worship God from the Garden to now and forever.
TAKE HOME:
- It is the will of God that we be wealthy and healthy.
- Wealth is a byproduct of our submission to God. The greater the submission the greater the wealth.
- Wealth and health reflect our thought life.
