Greetings dear saints of God and others. Welcome to our ongoing Study of “The Kingdom of God”. This was the central theme of Jesus’ Ministry and is to be ours as well. Now let’s get to our anchor Scripture and then jump into more instruction (commands) from the Master.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
This is the one hundred and nineth time for us to look at this Scripture and it does not get old but is taking root within us as it should. It is a command which means it is actionable revelation which we are to be about day in and day out. There is no such thing as Kingdom of God and righteousness time and then everything else being separate. All that we do is part of the Kingdom of God assignment or stewardship and it is all to be done His way.
The Scripture we will be studying today is Luke’s account of what Matthew recorded in the 24th Chapter of Matthew.
Luke 21:24 (ESV)
24 They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive among all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
Jesus is talking about His brethren, the Jews, in this verse. The Temple was destroyed by the Romans in about 70 AD. Since that time Jerusalem has been “trampled underfoot by the Gentiles”. Then came the “Six Day War” in 1967 and the Jews once again controlled all of Jerusalem. Then Jesus tells us how to interpret the Prophetic clock for the end days.
Luke 21:29-33 (ESV)
29 And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees.
30 As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near.
31 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
32 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all has taken place.
33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
The fig tree in Scripture is Israel. Jesus points us primarily to Israel but also to the other trees (prophetic Bible nations). Verse thirty was fulfilled on May 14th, 1948, when Israel once again became a nation. The very next verse is very interesting in that He says when we see these things “the kingdom of God is near”. But hasn’t the Kingdom of God already come? Yes, the spiritual kingdom has come but a spiritual and physical kingdom is on it’s way. At His second coming Jesus will rule the earth for a thousand years. Then Jesus tells us that when we see the fig tree put out leaves, when Jerusalem is no longer trodden under foot by the Gentiles, that generation will see His coming. You might ask, well then, how long is a generation? Let’s look at an exchange between God and Abram.
Genesis 15:13-16 (KJV)
13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
It seems that God sets the time of a generation at 100 to 120 years particularly if we factor in when the Israelites actually came out and Genesis 6:3 where the days of man are set at 120 years. Did the prophetic clock start in 1948 or 1967? In any even we can expect the Lord’s Second Coming between 2068 and 2087. Of course, it can be sooner dependent upon the Church.
TAKE HOME:
- We live one life, all of which is to reflect the Kingdom of God and His way of doing things. We are to produce, or we are to function such that God produces Heaven upon the earth in our lives for all to see.
- Jerusalem ceased to be trodden under foot of the Gentiles in 1967 and the nation in 1948.
- The generation that will see the Second Coming of Christ is in the earth.
- None of the Word of God will ever pass away.
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
