A WELL OF TRUTH
SO, WHAT ABOUT PROPHECY? – PART THREE

Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to A Well of Truth. Today I am going to speak once again about prophecy. I recently, December 2021, published a short book on the topic and the front cover is the featured picture today. This book/booklet can be purchased on Amazon.com and can be located by searching by my name (Dr. David R. Wood). At the end of this teaching, you will see all six books I have published and are available on Amazon as well. Before I move forward, please share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you expanding our reach with the Truth.
Now, let’s look at prophecy as one of the nine Gifts of the Spirit (of God). This is distinct from the office of Prophet. Of course, one in the office of Prophet has the gift of prophecy but also has revelation by the Spirit of God of things to come, and will speak words of correction. I ended last Sunday with the following Scriptures which we need to revisit and expand upon as led of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:1 (KJV)
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
Spiritual gifts are very important and like all other Scripture we must strive to not walk in ignorance. We all walk in astonishing ignorance compared with what is available to know, even your favorite superstar. However, we must not be complacent with that knowledge but look to diminish our ignorance day by day.
1 Corinthians 12:4-10 (KJV)
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
Notice that none of the gifts of the Spirit will appear the same in all individuals with a particular gift or operating in a particular gift. However, the Holy Spirit in them is the same Holy Spirit in us and will give witness. If you do not have an inner witness to a certain person appearing to operate in a gift of the Spirit, just quietly set that aside and let the Lord and the leadership deal with the situation. Please do not diminish the gift, the exercise of the gift, or the person exercising the gift whether we have an inner witness of not. Perhaps we are judging by the outward man or some other knowledge and not by the Holy Spirit. In the following verse notice what the gift of prophecy always does.
1 Corinthians 14:3 (KJV)
3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
Neither a person operating in the gift of prophecy or the office of Prophet will ever mention a past sin of which the person has repented. The person operating in the gift of prophecy never will anyway for that is not within the parameters of the gift. If one operating in the office of Prophet, they are either a false prophet, the person has not repented, or they are speaking out of their own spirit. The gift of the Spirit always builds up, encourages, and comforts. With regard to the Prophet, the other Prophets judge the prophecy.
1 Corinthians 14:29-32 (KJV)
29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
This passage appears more focused on the gift of Prophecy but I believe it applies to both since no distinction is made.
