MAKE AN OINTMENT

Good morning, good day, or good evening depending on when you are reading this and welcome back to this amazing Bible Study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. God is so good to give us His Word to guide us in every aspect of our lives. Yes, every aspect of our lives. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture today is of two racoon getting a drink of water from a watering trough on the ranch in the night. The cedar post laid across the tank is to assist any small animals that might fall into the water and not be able to climb up the sides. As I sit here looking at the picture, I think one could develop a pretty good sermon or teaching using the it. The racoon are us, we are certainly in a dark world, the water which is continually supplied is the Word or God and taught us by the Holy Spirit. The cedar pole represents the Hand of Jesus, like was extended to Peter upon the water, a way back to safety. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 38:17-22 (TLB)
17 “Yes, now I see it all—it was good for me to undergo this bitterness, for you have lovingly delivered me from death; you have forgiven all my sins.
18 For dead men cannot praise you. They cannot be filled with hope and joy.
19 The living, only the living, can praise you as I do today. One generation makes known your faithfulness to the next.
20 Think of it! The Lord healed me! Every day of my life from now on I will sing my songs of praise in the Temple, accompanied by the orchestra.”
21 (For Isaiah had told Hezekiah’s servants, “Make an ointment of figs and spread it over the boil, and he will get well again.”
22 And then Hezekiah had asked, “What sign will the Lord give me to prove that he will heal me?”)
Have you noticed that King Hezekiah’s restoration involved a spiritual aspect, that being a change of heart, repentance. But now we come to his part, a physical part in his healing. We always have a part, there is always a physical part not just a spiritual part. In this case Isaiah was given a physical solution to this boil from which King Hezekiah was dying. This was in effect a drawing cream. A common drawing cream today is a product called ichthammol. We have been taught to look to Jesus to do it all and therefore we see massive failure in the body of Christ. Let’s look at a couple of examples in the Ministry of Jesus.
Mark 3:3-5 (KJV)
3 And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.
4 And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.
5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
What if this man didn’t stand forth? What if when commanded to stretch forth his hand he whined that he couldn’t?
Mark 2:11-12 (KJV)
11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
This is the man let down through Jesus’ personal residence through the roof by four friends. We are told he arose without even a moment of hesitation. It does not say he felt anything but he obeyed Jesus. He had faith in the Word. What about the Syrian General, Naaman, who had leprosy and went to see the Prophet Elisha.
2 Kings 5:14 (KJV)
14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.
An action of obedience releases the flow of Gods’ Power. Tomorrow I will pick up with Chapter thirty-nine of Isaiah and as we will see King Hezekiah reverted quickly back into pride.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
