FEAR NOT

Greetings dear friends and partners of Eastern Gate Ministries Inc. and The Three Minute Word blog. Welcome back to our ongoing study of the wonderful Bible Book of Isaiah. What a ride! Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you to expand our reach with this beyond good, good news. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture today is of a birdseed thief. This was at our home in Maine and our birdseed was rapidly disappearing every night but the game camera exposed the culprit. Now, let’s turn our attention to the teaching for today. Please be sure you are reading out loud.
Isaiah 41:10-13 (KJV)
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.
12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
I think we all know that the admonition to fear not occurs often in the Scripture frequently in encounters with God or angels. Fear is a spirit, an evil spirit, and we are to resist fear and not be in fear. We may feel fear, the presence of fear, but we must not let it in. God has given us Power, love, and a disciplined mind (2 Timothy 1:7) to combat fear. Dismay or discouragement is also to have no place in the life of the Christian. When we are in fear and/or discouragement we have yielded to the demons and have our attention, focus in the wrong place. Both resisting fear and resisting discouragement require a disciplined mind, an exercise of the will, to focus on the Word of God, on our Father, on our Savior. When and if we resist fear and/or discouragement not allowing it in, the Lord will strengthen us and uphold us with the right hand of His righteousness. The right hand of His righteousness is a person.
1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV)
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
On the other hand, if we yield to the demons (fear and discouragement) help is not on the way. Here is the good news, even in a moment of fear, if we will return our attention to Jesus (the Word) and cry out to Jesus He will extend His Hand to us just like Peter.
Matthew 14:29-32 (KJV)
29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
In the moment, time, of rescue Jesus will point out the problem. In this case Peter had more faith in the “wind boisterous” than Jesus. Peter took the extended hand and walked back to the boat with Jesus. In the boat they all including Peter submitted to Jesus, the Word. There must be a repentance for the “little faith” followed by the effort to increase our faith. What about you and me are we repenting for our lack of faith and being led of the Spirit to build our faith?
Back to our text, look at the payoff in verse eleven of our text. Interestingly the number eleven in the Scripture has to do with being in alignment with God. Isn’t that what verse ten is all about. God is not in fear nor discouragement. In order for us to be in fear and/or discouragement we are not in alignment with God, not walking with Him but with another. I can’t speak for you but I want to walk with the Master and not another. In the Master, with the Master, is overflowing abundance for every area of this life and beyond. With another only stealing, killing, destroying and eternal misery lies ahead. Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
