Greetings dear and precious saints of the only Living God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, not the god of Ishmael.
I hope you are praying every day with a whole heart for God’s mercy upon Israel, for their protection, and peace.
Psalm 122:6-9 (KJV)
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.
8 For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.
9 Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.
Please take a moment before we continue with our study to share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing.

Now, let’s plunge into our primary study of 1st John continuing to read out loud. Yes, out loud, you know why.
1 John 2:5-8 (KJV)
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
Isn’t the first Epistle of John just wonderful. These Scriptures like the rest of the Bible are for our learning however this Book really zeros in on the heart of the matter in plain language. The heart of the matter is the power twins of love and faith. Of course, many other things are very important in our walk with God but if we are not working actively day in and day out on these, love and faith, things will be very hard. I ended last week with verse six saying that if we do really walk in love (agapē/agapaō) you will be walking like Him. That is, we will live like Him and be occupied with the things with which He was occupied. He was occupied with and lived a Kingdom of God life. No, He was not poor and homeless, trash that religious rubbish.
Now, let’s take a look at verses seven and eight from our text. In the King James Version on the surface, it seems confusing. It appears that He is saying he is not giving a new command and then in the next verse turns around and says it is. I think you will see what is being said right away with the God’s Word Translation.
1 John 2:7-8 (GW)
7 Dear friends, it’s not as though I’m writing to give you a new commandment. Rather, I’m giving you an old commandment that you’ve had from the beginning. It’s the old commandment you’ve already heard.
8 On the other hand, I’m writing to give you a new commandment. It’s a truth that exists in Christ and in you: The darkness is fading, and the true light is already shining.
At first it seems like he is still talking about love, but no, he is talking about light, that the light has come and is in us. That light is salvation in Christ. The commandment was that salvation is coming by the Messiah, the Christ. The darkness of Atonement is fading and the light of redemption by the Blood of Jesus has come.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week. The Lord is good and He cannot lie. Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father above (James 1:17).

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
