AMERICA – THE CONSTITUTION AND GOD-GIVEN RIGHTS

Recently a well known TV anchor was appalled by a statement made by Judge Moore. You may already know that Judge Moore was recently selected by the voters of Alabama to run for the Senate on the Republican ticket to replace Jeff Sessions. Judge Moore gained a fair amount of notoriety when he refused to remove the Ten Commandments from the courthouse in Alabama and when he refused to enforce Federal same sex marriage laws. He was removed from the office of Chief Justice on both occasions. Judge Moore was right on both occasions for both were wicked rulings and righteous peoples have no obligation to honor man’s evil laws above God’s righteous laws. Here is Judge Moore’s statement that has caused the left to reel in horror. “Our rights don’t come from government, they don’t come from the Bill of Rights. They come from Almighty God”.
It seems to be commonly thought that the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States are completely separate and unrelated documents. The Declaration of Independence is the Scriptural, and moral foundation upon which our Constitution sits. The real and historical connection is demonstrated with the signing of every official document of the Federal Government. The actual date of signing is there and then the statement “and of the Independence of the United States of America the”. Following “the” is the number of years since 1776. For example I looked at a document signed by President Abraham Lincoln on December 18, 1861 and the number added was 86 which is the time elapsed from the dating of the Declaration of Independence to the coming birthday, July 4, 1862. So this was signed in the 86th year of our independence.
Let’s review what I hope are very familiar words to us all from the Declaration of Independence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
The purpose, the function of just government is to enshrine these rights among others with the full force of government. The original words for this passage were “life, liberty, and property”. This is thought to have come from the writings of John Locke who wrote extensively about government. Thomas Jefferson substituted the phrase “pursuit of happiness” for “property”. The God-given rights concerning property are prominent in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, for example the Fifth Amendment. The pursuit of happiness was defined to mean the freedom of opportunity. I am hoping that every Christian reading this knows that life, liberty (freedom, authority), and property, even the pursuit of happiness are rights, principles established by God right from the first chapter of Genesis. God is the giver of life and the freedom to conduct that life in righteousness or wickedness is mankind’s choice. God made us as freewill creature, we have the liberty to be responsible or irresponsible. He gave mankind property right off the bat and in all of His interactions with the children of Israel it always involved land ownership. God laid before mankind the path that would bring happiness and the path that would bring sadness. Among other unalienable rights are those of offensive actions like just wars, changing the government, and the right of self-defense. I will be talking more about self-defense on Friday. An unalienable right given of God is one from which we cannot be seperated except by our consent. Unfortunately, over many years we have been assigning the ultimate protection of these rights to the government. This is like putting the fox in charge of the hen-house. God is the guarantor of these rights as we submit to His will. No government can rule except by the consent of the Church. The Church has been convinced of the devil to abdicate their responsibilities on the earth to the wicked. Separation of Church and State you know (dripping sarcasm). Church it is time to awake, arise, and triumph. When the righteous rule the people rejoice however when the wicked rule the people groan.
