YOU MADE US STRAY

Greetings dear children of God and those who are running from God, to those who practice love (agapē) and those who think they do. Welcome back to this enlightening, engaging, and empowering study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. The featured picture today is of the State House in Jackson Mississippi. The purpose is to remind us all of the importance of praying for, obeying, and honoring those in authority. Now, let’s cast our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud, yes, out loud.
Isaiah 63:16-19 (NKJV)
16 Doubtless You are our Father, Though Abraham was ignorant of us, And Israel does not acknowledge us. You, O LORD, are our Father; Our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your name.
17 O LORD, why have You made us stray from Your ways, And hardened our heart from Your fear? Return for Your servants’ sake, The tribes of Your inheritance.
18 Your holy people have possessed it but a little while; Our adversaries have trodden down Your sanctuary.
19 We have become like those of old, over whom You never ruled, Those who were never called by Your name.
Notice Isaiah, the people of God, are blaming God for their straying and the hardness of their hearts. This is wrong, God does not cause anyone to stray or to harden their hearts. These are decisions we all make individually. God does not control anyone for any reason at any time. We are freewill beings. God will allow our choices, not to allow our choices would violate the law of freewill. We have authority over ourselves. God will not make our decisions and the devils cannot nor other people. Of course, all of these can and do influence our decisions as we allow. It is good when we allow God, and Godly counsel from others in the body of Christ. Many times, in the Hebrew it appears that God did it, but the truth is that God allowed it. Here is the course of events, we make a decision, the enemy brings an accusation and gets a judgement against us, and then the enemy is free to bring that judgment into our lives (in the absence of repentance). Our success or failure starts with we ourselves. The latter part of verse seventeen borders on repentance but does not strike me as full-throated repentance.
As we enter verse eighteen, they are complaining that they only possessed the land (Promised Land) a little while. Well, whose fault is that? Theirs of course! They are complaining that the Sanctuary, Solomons Temple, is trodden down. All the result of choices contrary to the Word of God. These people are in captivity due to sin, just like many in the body of Christ today. Unbeknown to them at the time the rebuilding of the Temple and the repair of the walls is still another 200 years off. This business of blaming others started in the garden and is common today.
Genesis 3:11-13 (NKJV)
11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
12 Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
13 And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
It is important that each of us, without fail, take responsibility for our part in everything in our lives. As I close for today, consider that deception, being deceived, is a choice on our part.
James 1:13-16 (KJV)
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
