Greeting dear and precious saints of God, little children as the Apostle John refers to us, and welcome back to these enlightening and empowering teachings of 1st John. The Lord is so good little ones. Are we seeing and listening to these Scriptures to understand, guard in our hearts, and do, or is it more of a religious exercise for the day? The Words of God which we make our own take us one direction, a very good direction, but the words of the world perverted by the original pervert take us in an altogether different direction. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today continuing to read out loud.
1 John 3:6-10 (KJV)
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
Today I will pick up with verse nine of our primary Bible text. The Apostle of love keeps speaking that the redeemed are not designed to sin nor do they have the nature of sin. At salvation God in the person of the Holy Spirit is within us to help us see, understand, and do all the Truth. Let’s look at this verse in the Message Bible for more insight.
1 John 3:9 (MSG)
9 People conceived and brought into life by God don’t make a practice of sin. How could they? God’s seed is deep within them, making them who they are. It’s not in the nature of the God-begotten to practice and parade sin.
Again, we see the idea of practicing sin as opposed to the occasional sin whether it be with knowledge or in ignorance by the believer. It seems to me that he is driving home the idea that one cannot continue a life of sin and remain born of God. That is to say that a believer can forfeit salvation by serving another god (Satan) and doing the works of another kingdom, that of darkness. This of course flies in the face of the false doctrine of once saved always saved. On its face this doctrine is false for it transgresses the Law of Freewill.
The Apostle John goes on in verse ten to tell that this is a sure way to tell the children of God and the children of the devil. One practices sin and the other does not. One does right according to the Word of God and the other does not. Doing right means that they follow all the commands of the Lord.
John 14:15 (KJV)
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
One, those of the light, loves his brother (and sister) and the other, those of darkness, does not. Those in darkness don’t have the capacity for love, love as God loves. They have a cheap imitation which is mainly sensual. Listen to the Word.
John 13:34-35 (KJV)
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
