LOVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH ALL THY HEART, AND WITH ALL THY SOUL, AND WITH ALL THY MIND

Greetings dear saints and elect of God whom I love in the Truth. This is the fourth week of our study of 2nd John. This canonized Bible Book was written by the Apostle John, who is one of the original twelve. It is thought to have been written between the years 85-95 AD. The Apostle John is the human vessel by inspiration of the Holy Spirit who also wrote the Gospel of John (big John), 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John (the little Johns), as well as the Book of Revelation. He was the Apostle of love (agapē/agapaō). Likewise, we are all called to walk in this love. If you are not sure about this kind of love (agapē/agapaō), get my book: Awake, Arise, and Triumph – Be Love. With this in mind I find it more than interesting that he is the only one of the original twelve not to die a violent death.
WHAT WILL WE LEARN TODAY?
- Godly love (agapē/agapaō) is far different than love as the world knows, defines, and displays it.
- There is nothing superior to or equal to Godly love, upon it hangs all the law and the prophets. Wow!
- For us to express Godly love in fulness requires a complete transformation of our mind to His will and a complete dedication of our body for His purposes.
2 John 1:1 (KJV)
1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
Let’s turn our attention back to the idea of Godly love, love that only God and His children (you and me) can express. This is not love as the world, the kingdom of darkness knows love, but Kingdom of Light love. Love as the world know it is sensual, emotional, erotic. Godly love is none of these at its base. There is no way to over emphasize this love (agapē/agapaō). Listen to Jesus.
Matthew 22:36-40 (KJV)
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Is there anything else you can think of that “all the law and the prophets” hang? This is a huge statement. Jesus said we are to love (agapē/agapaō) God with our whole soul (mind, will, emotions – conscious mind), our spirit (seat of the fruits of the spirit), and our deepest thoughts, imaginations, and understandings (our subconscious). Does this describe you or me? I can’t answer that question for you, but I am definitely a work in progress. Doesn’t this really illuminate the supreme importance of the following command.
Romans 12:1-2 (KJV)
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
We find here that our physical bodies are for the will of God and that our mind can be transformed from the worlds way of thinking, understanding, doing to knowing the good, acceptable and perfect will of God. Do we believe this and are we pursuing this goal with all that is within us? The use of the word “mind” in Romans 12:2 is a little different than Matthew 22:37. The word transliterated to mind in English from Greek is noús a masculine noun. It is the mind, the organ of mental perception and apprehension, of conscious life, of the consciousness preceding actions or recognizing and judging them, intelligent understanding according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. More next Friday, we’ve only just begun.
TAKE HOME:
- Godly love (agapē/agapaō) is far different than love as the world knows, defines, and displays it.
- There is nothing superior to or equal to Godly love, for upon this love hangs all the law and the prophets. Wow!
- For us to express Godly love in fulness requires a complete transformation of our mind to His will and a complete dedication of our body for His purposes.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
