WHAT KIND OF LEAVEN ARE WE?

Greetings dear saints of God and others. Welcome to this ongoing Bible Study of the Kingdom of God. As I was thinking about this topic it came to me that I should, we should, be putting our anchor Scripture together with the following Scripture.
Matthew 6:9-10 (ESV)
9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
I don’t think anyone doubts that the will of God and the fulness of the Kingdom of God is in Heaven. I am not going to address it but let me ask a question for you to chew on. Do we have freewill in Heaven? Jesus tells us to pray the Kingdom of God and the will of God into the earth. Do you believe that is possible? Was Jesus talking about a far away time or right now? It is possible for He commanded it. It would be unjust to command something that we could not accomplish, with His help of course. The Kingdom of God is within us but is to shine forth like the sun. When we do things His way we can have days of Heaven upon this earth. The following passage is rather lengthy but is just as applicable to us today as them that day.
Deuteronomy 11:18-25 (KJV)
18 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.
19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
20 And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates:
21 That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.
22 For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;
23 Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves.
24 Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be.
25 There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you.
If these things are not true in our lives, what might we conclude? This is not rocket science. We are not doing verse twenty-two above. This brings us to our anchor Scripture as we conclude for today.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Our anchor text commands us to seek the Kingdom first so it must have our attention. The Kingdom of God is righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. It is our fulltime aim to walk in these. It is not optional if you want days of Heaven on the earth in your life and to spread to those around you.
Luke 13:18-21 (ESV)
18 He said therefore, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?
19 It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.”
20 And again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?
21 It is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.”
Just as leaven or yeast in bread dough causes increase so it will be in our lives as we live according to the Kingdom of God. As we function in our circle which would include family, job, social connections, and Church we should see increased right doing (not according to us but God), more evidence of peace (all six attributes), and joy (a calm delight knowing who we are in Him) expanding.
TAKE HOME:
- Praying to bring the Kingdom of God, the will of God into the earth is the same thing as seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
- Are we diligently keeping God’s commandments, loving the LORD our God, and walking in all his ways?
- What kind of leaven am I, are you? We are leaven, there is no neutral ground.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
