Greetings dear saints of God and others and welcome back to this exciting and revelatory study of The Trail of Blood from before the foundation of the world to the Mercy Seat of Heaven. Now, let’s get back on the trail. Jesus was the final blood sacrifice, setting sin aside forever. And praise be to God, Jesus was willing; for I desperately needed a Savior. Let’s see what Jesus said about that awful and wonderful day at Calvary to come when He said it, now we rejoice in the fruit of it.
John 10:16-18 (KJV)
16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
In this passage, Jesus is telling them that the gentiles, you and me, are being brought into the one-fold. We are going to share the Covenant given the Jew first. Then He goes on to tell them that He is willingly laying down His life. He has power (exousia – authority) to lay it down and take it back up. He had that power, for He was in the unique position of being sinless; consequently, death could not have dominion over Him. Sin and death had dominion over sinful men (mankind); but not over a sinless man, for the justice of God would not allow it. It would be unjust and would allow the Father to intervene. Satan, although he would like to disregard the law, must obey it. He has no choice, just like we have no choice in obeying natural laws like the law of gravity. We know that the wages of sin are death (Romans 6:23); so then, the wages of righteousness would be life.
Jesus suffered to bring many sons to glory, and it pleased Him to do so. This reflects not only His agape (Divine love) for us, but for the Father.
Hebrews 2:10 (KJV)
10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. [2]
Hebrews 12:2 (KJV)
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. [2]
Jesus is the author of our faith. He paid the price of sin that allows us access to God; and the authority for the Holy Spirit to restore life, and we could once again be a living soul. Those God given organs, the fruits of the spirit, were brought to life – resurrected, including faith that came from God. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He is the Word, and it is by the Word that faith is increased to the ultimate as seen in Jesus.
Romans 10:17 (KJV)
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. [2]
John 3:34 (KJV)
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. [2]
Jesus, the final blood sacrifice, says, “It is finished.” What is finished?
John 19:30 (KJV)
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Blood sacrifice is finished. To offer blood sacrifice again as a remedy for sin would be an affront to the blood of Jesus and to the Father. In the Millennial Kingdom, there will be ongoing sacrifice (Isaiah 56:7); but not as an atonement for sin, but a memorial of the Blood of Jesus. The Greek word translated “finished” in John 19:30 is teleō meaning to end, to complete, execute, conclude, discharge (a debt), accomplish, make an end, expire, fill up, finish, go over, pay, perform according to Strong’s. As the song goes, “I owed a debt I could not pay, and He paid a debt He did not owe”, praise His holy name. I boldly declare He is the Savior; He is my Savior! He is the only real place of safety.
TAKE HOME:
- Jesus willingly laid down His life and took it up again. Why, the Father had commanded Him to do so.
- Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. The more time we spend with Him the more faith we build.
- The debt of sin is paid; we are loosed from curse to walk in the blessing.
Lord willing, I will resume and conclude right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
