Greetings dear saints of God and others. Welcome to our ongoing Study of “The Kingdom of God”. This was the central theme of Jesus’ Ministry and is to be ours as well. Now let’s get to our anchor Scripture and then jump into more instruction (commands) from the Master.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
This is the one hundred and eighth time for us to look at this Scripture and it does not get old but is taking root within us as it should. Our main text is a command which means it is actionable revelation which we are to be about day in and day out. There is no such thing as Kingdom of God and righteousness time and then everything else being separate. All that we do is part of the Kingdom of God assignment or stewardship and it is all to be done His way. The Kingdom of God is all about increase and not the status quo or decrease those are of the kingdom of darkness. Our text today is lengthy but very instructive. I will insert comments between verses.
Luke 19:15-27 (ESV)
15 When he returned, having received the kingdom, he ordered these servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by doing business.
16 The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten minas more.’
17 And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.’
Comment: The Lord is calling all to account, you and I will be among these one of these days soon. Will we be able to say we increased, that we used what He entrusted to us wisely? We see that this first servant is rewarded well.
18 And the second came, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made five minas.’
19 And he said to him, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’
Comment: The next came and the reward is proportional to the increase.
20 Then another came, saying, ‘Lord, here is your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief;
21 for I was afraid of you, because you are a severe man. You take what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’
Next one came who by design did nothing with what the Lord gave him, and he had excuses. Your excuses, nor mine will amount to a hill of beans on Judgment Day.
22 He said to him, ‘I will condemn you with your own words, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a severe man, taking what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow?
23 Why then did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I might have collected it with interest?’
24 And he said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’
25 And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas!’
The words of the lazy servant condemned him as will ours if this is our story on Judgement Day. Then what the Lord had given him was taken and given to the most productive servant. God is not a socialist but a capitalist. Where do you think capitalism and wealth building come from?
26 ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
27 But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.’”
Comment: Who are the enemies who did not want Him to rule over them? It is the Jewish people. It appears from Scripture that about two—thirds of the Jews worldwide will be killed during the Tribulation and a third will be left who will receive Jesus as Messiah.
TAKE HOME:
- Our Lord and Savior has given us all that we need to increase the Kingdom and ourselves. What are we doing with what is in our hand?
- Jesus is pleased with increase and rewards it proportionally.
- Failure to use what we have been given for any reason/excuse results in the loss of what we were given. In Heaven but empty handed.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
