YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN

Welcome back to our study of the Kingdom of God. The majority of Jesus Ministry in the earth had to do with teaching the Kingdom and demonstrating the Kingdom on the earth. Once again, let us read aloud our anchor Scripture.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Let’s personalize it as follows: I seek first the Kingdom of God and His way of doing things and all the things of this life are being added to me. Do you believe it? What does this Kingdom of God life look like for we are to be doing as He did (John 14:12).
Luke 4:18-19 (ESV)
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
This was the Ministry of Jesus and ours but since the Resurrection our ministry is so much more expansive like He said it would be. We can get significant insight into the “greater things” by reading the whole chapter of Isaiah sixty-one.
Mark 1:14-15 (KJV)
14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Acts 10:38 (KJV)
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Jesus preached and demonstrated the Kingdom of God and He instructed His disciples to do likewise when He sent them out.
Luke 10:9 (KJV)
9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Now, let’s look in the Gospel of John and what Jesus had to say about the Kingdom of God.
John 3:1-5 (ESV)
1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”
3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus is a part of the religious rulers of his day like Joseph of Arimathea who buried the body of Jesus. Nicodemus acknowledges that Jesus is from God but is not ready to follow Him openly however at the Crucifixion we see him following openly (John 19:39) when the disciples had scattered. We see for the first time the term “born again”. This term is used three times, twice by John and once by Peter.
1 Peter 1:22-23 (KJV)
22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
In John 3:5 the water is the seed, the Word of God, and the Spirit is the Holy Spirit, by faith we are saved by Grace. The Apostle Peter connects obeying the Word of God (the Truth) with the Spirit of God, it is the Spirit that enables us to believe and do the Word of God when we have ears to hear.
TAKE HOME:
- We are anointed to proclaim good news to the poor. We are sent to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and more.
- We are to explain and demonstrate the Kingdom of God.
- We are born again by incorruptible seed, the Word of God, and the work of the Holy Spirit when we speak and believe.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
