GIFTS – PART TWELVE
Friday – January 10, 2020, Tevet 13, 5780
Greeting precious saints of God and welcome back to this empowering (if we chose) Bible Study of “Gifts” from God. Our God is so good! And yes, you, each and everyone of you, are precious, costly, beyond the value of any natural resource combined in all of creation.
1 Peter 1:18-19 (KJV)
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
I know this is very difficult to comprehend dear saints, but God set our value, what He was willing to pay. The price paid was far beyond all the resources of creation combined. The price paid was the precious Blood of Christ, the Messiah. Next time any of us are tempted to throw a pity party or are thinking we are useless and worthless just remember how valuable you are, a price far beyond silver and gold. The life, the shed Blood, of God become flesh. This of course was the culmination of the Trail of Precious Blood which we are discussing in great detail that led from the Garden of Eden on the Day of Sin and Death to the very Mercy Seat of Heaven some 4000 years later. We will pick up this trail of blood in Genesis chapter twenty-two when the Blood Covenant between God the Father and Abraham, and God the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit is tested.
Genesis 22:1-2 (KJV)
1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
How would you or I respond if this were us? Would we recoil in fear and horror? Would we recognize this as the voice of God or would we think it was the devil or some other voice? Do we spend enough time with the Lord, know the Lord well enough that we recognize His voice as distinct from our own or that of devils? These are very serious questions. The answer directly affects how quickly we respond or if we respond to the Lord. How many know that delayed obedience and immediate obedience are two separate things. Delayed obedience is sin and many times has dire consequences for us or others. So, what did Abraham and Isaac do?
Genesis 22:3 (KJV)
3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
Abraham and Isaac responded immediately. Abraham did not have to pray about it, or consult with other persons about it. He knew the will of God, responded to that will immediately with full unequivocal trust in God. Can we say the same?
Genesis 22:4-6 (KJV)
4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
You will remember that Abraham’s first and only thought was that God would raise Isaac from the dead for the promise of God for his seed and the Seed was sure.
Hebrews 11:17-19 (KJV)
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
Notice that all of this is a type and shadow of the coming Messiah and what will come to pass when He pays the price of sin, exchanging His righteousness for our unrighteousness. On the day that Abraham received the command of God to sacrifice Isaac he considered him dead. Abraham and Isaac arrive at the land of Moriah (Mount Moriah) on the third day. Our Genesis text tells us that Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place afar off. If you study the words you will discover that we are not talking about distance but time. He is seeing the crucifixion of Christ. He saw Christ raised from the dead and therefore knew with increased certainty that Isaac would be raised from the dead if need be. Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
