IDOLATORS AND EMPTY WORDS

Greetings dear saints of God and any others taking a look at this Christian Bible Teaching. I teach the Bible from the Bible. I do not rely on the traditions of men, doctrines of demons or sacred cows. Prove all things dear ones, prove all things by the Bible. Today I will be continuing the teaching series on The Kingdom of God. This is teaching number one-hundred thirty-three. Now, let’s go to our primary text.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Once again dear ones we see and hear the command to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Are we taking it serious or simply saying “oh, that nice”. As I have mentioned before this does not mean you are in Church meetings constantly or go around acting weird. It means that you are a living walking example of Heaven upon the earth doing things Heavens way, that is with excellence. We are not sloppy in dress, demeanor, talk, or work ethic. We are representatives of Heaven on the earth.
Now, let’s go to our next teaching passage on this topic of the Kingdom of God. You will no doubt that it is much like the Galatians passage we reviewed yesterday.
Ephesians 5:5-7 (KJV)
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
Looking at verse five one might exclaim “that is not me, we don’t have that in the Church”. Really? Than why is the Apostle Paul putting this in a letter to the Church? What about covetousness, which is idolatry and other forms of idolatry? A covetous person is one who always wants more with that becoming a consuming focus. Many things in the Kingdom of God have to do with focus. Where is your focus. God does not care if you a hundred cars for example if your focus is on Him and other people. The cars are to be tools for the Kingdom, a testimony of the goodness of God, and in terms of focus are incidental for our enjoyment. Remember, anything, any activity or anyone can become an idol. An idol is anything, any activity, or any person that comes before God, that we place above or ahead of God. Commonly this is our job, even a hobby, or perhaps children or grandchildren. Each of us must examine ourselves before the Lord.
What is this about being deceived with “vain words” in verse six? Vain words are empty words, words without power, clouds without rain. We will now examine a series of Scriptures to illuminate this point. You may need to be reminded that this is everywhere, not just in some remote place in Scripture. Let’s each of us ask ourselves if this is present in our individual lives and in our Church gatherings.
Proverbs 25:14 (KJV)
14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
John 3:34 (KJV)
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
1 Corinthians 2:4 (KJV)
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
1 Corinthians 4:19-20 (KJV)
19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.
20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.
Review the entirety of Ephesians 5:6 which clearly tells us that speaking vain or empty words is disobedience and puts us in danger of the wrath of God. Doesn’t sound good to me, don’t know about you.
TAKE HOME:
- Stand out in a crowd, be excellent as your Father and Savior are excellent. Avoid blending in especially among the heathen or those less mature in the faith.
- Avoid idolatry!
- Avoid vain speech, come with the Words given of God with Power to illustrate the goodness of God and the validity of His Word.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
